Tires, Wheels, Lift kit question:
I have a new 2009 Sahara Wrangler (Auto) and I want to lift it and put larger tires on it. I originally wanted a 3.5" lift with 35" tires, but i was told it would be too sluggish of a ride. It was suggested to me to get 33" tires, 16-17" wheels, and 2.5" lift kit to improve on and off road use.
My question is what is everybody out there riding for a starting upgrade, and what do you all recommend?
Thanks.

Get at least 4.88 gears with 35's. Then it won't be so "sluggish." Otherwise the set up will work great. Most everyone decides to go 5.13's.
As for my current set up: 2" Rubicon Express budget boost w/ 33x12.50 tires.

Go with the 35's!!! the 2.5' Teraflex coil lift and 35s is what i went and i love it. It gives it a mean look since the tires really fill out the well and if you wanna give it some 'flex" room you can always toss on a body lift (just keep the bump stop extenders so your tires don't bottom out on the inside of the well.)
In either case (33 or 35), with the automatic you'll probably want to regear, so just go with the bigger one!

I have an unlimited x as a daily driver and I'm stopping at 33s. Any bigger and I would need to re-gear. I will never be able to convince my wife to let me do that. I had a '91 with tires to large for my gearing and it was horrible. I'm not going to go through that again.

okay so some people say that regear is going to be needed if i go 35" instead of 33", since it is automatic, but some say its not needed. What do you all think, since im probably going either the OME 2.5" or the Teraflex 2.5" lift. Is regearing needed? or should i play it safe with the 33"?
