That is a pretty sweet deal....are they blem's??? I know some tires that I got in the past if they were missing a letter or white lettering turned out to be black...I got them for next to nothing.

What kind of deal could that buddy of your's get for a set of 305/70R16 Toyo M/T's. I have to go into today and talk with my tire dealer in town for my wife's jeep. I want to get a few quotes to find a great deal.

I just paid $269/tire for 35x12.50x17 and it seemed to be $30 less than the next best deal I could find. I don't get it, why is a 35x12.5 tire more expensive if it has a 17" hole in the middle than a 15" hole in the middle?

I think thats because its the most popular. the 15 inch wheel tires actually have more rubber, so you'd think they would be the more expensive....

LOL

The lager the hole in the middle, the more the remaining rubber has to do to accomplish the same work for you...and then there's re-couping mold costs.

15" tires have been the bread and butter of the industry for decades....so when 16" tire came out, they were more expensive for the same size....and then it was like that for the 17's, and the 18's, etc...all the way up the im diameter chain.

If they have 15" equipment...they can make 15" tires cheaper....the equipment was already paid for.....as the rim sizes go up...they need to outlay capital for factories that can make the larger sizes, etc....they want that money BACK.

The other thing that happens is inventory control.....more sizes means more work to stock more varieies.

And, last but not least.....oil has gone up...dramatically...and guess what tires are made of mostly?

And what takes the tires to where you can buy them?

Etc....add the extra logistical transportation costs to the management of the extra varieties and the costs of the materials...and tire prices go up the most for what ever is the newest tire....as the most recent cost increases have the most impact upon the most recent batches, etc.

So - add ALL the above up, and a bigger hole in the middle of the tire = a bigger hole in your wallet.

the only reason I got this steal is because they said they had these sitting in the back for almost a year and just wanted to get rid of them as it's a very small shop with very limited storage
Plus 15's are cheaper simply cuz they rock only way to go if you're wheeling as far as I'm concerned for these reasons
1. Cheaper
2. More rubber = more protection for your rims
3. easier to find in stock and replace if need be
4. CHEAPER
5. 18" and over are for tuner cars or Hummers and do you think those hummers ever see any mud(not likely) oh and for rig rockets if you're from Oil country you'll understand what I'm talking about
