Default Track Bar Movement? Normal?

My wife got a case of the death wobble yesterday. Today, I had her jiggle the steering wheel while I looked at the steering linkage. Everything looks great except there was a little "play" at the top track bar mount. I have a stock track bar. Is a little play normal or should there be no play?

Thanks,

I think there should be no play. I think a member by way of planman did a write up on DW. Might do a search and see if you can spot it

No, there shouldn't be any movement. Did you try cranking down on the bolt? 125lbs is what is recommended, so crank it, then have her turn the wheel and check again.

as mentioned, there should be no movement and if there is, that would be your problem. 125 ft lbs of torque on both mounting bolts is what you should try tightening them to.

regardless of the torque on that bolt/nut combo - should you be able to see play if it was at 100lbs or 80lbs? just curious..... would seeing play at that point indicate wallowed holes or garbage bushing?

most likely not at 100 but maybe at 80 if your mounting holes are wollowed out and you really crank your steering wheel back and forth for a while.

so if all was good you wouldn't see play @ 80lbs right?

it's hard to say for sure but, i would guess not or, at least not in a driveway with you just turning your wheels back and forth. of course, if you're driving and hit a pot hole or rail road track or anything really, that could be enough to jar things loose.

Flash1034. - I see you put on a lift. If you have a digital torque wrench and it said 125 ft. lbs. when you installed it, and you re-checked it periodically and it was 125 ft. lbs, and it still says 125 ft. lbs., then either it’s off and/or the hole is wallowed.

Thanks for the replies. I will retorque it tomorrow and see what we have. If it still has movement, I guess its Tera Monster Bar time.
