I got 33s and I'm quite happy with them. I ran with TORN from Stillwater to Moab and most of the way back, and he runs 35s. We both have 4.10 gears, but he has a 2-door. He was all of the time filling for gas way before I ever needed to. Yes, I have a bigger tank, but it was more than that. He spent a lot of Interstate time in fifth gear; I cruised mostly in sixth.

I run with folks that have 35s and even the occasional 37s. Even though I have 33s and no lockers, I still was quite please with my Jeep's performance on such difficult trails as Fins and Things, and Poison Spider Mesa.

I'm thinking of moving to 35s one of these days--after the 33s wear out--but I won't do it until I'm willing to spend the money to regear.

BTW: Where exactly in OK? We do JK-Forum runs to Disney on occasion.

Probably. But not without regearing and doing a few other things to beef up my D30. I consider the risk of a broken axle 50 miles around White Rim Trail much greater than the problems I might have from 1" of ground clearance lost.

I will be on 33's soon. Was in the same boat as you.... what to get, what to get. It came down to budget for me. with 35" you should be on at least a 3" lift. If you have a 2 door like me then that means a longer rear drive shaft, and most recommend re-gearing from 373's to at least 4.10's or even better 5.13's. All told with new tires/wheels, drive shaft, gears, and a lift it was too much for me to bite off at one time. I'm getting the 33's / wheels, and a BB and will add gears, bigger lift and rear drive shaft as time goes by, unless I hit the lottery!! I spent a lot of time searching this forum and found a good deal of info on making the switch. If you haven't already looked through here.............

Oh, keep an eye on the Midwest forum thread. That's where we plan things such as Disney, getting together for dinner, etc. This weekend there's a group heading out to Superlift in Hot Springs, AR. I skipped it because next weekend my son and I are headed for Moab and I didn't want to risk doing some damage that would impact our plans.

I agree as Toyo has good MT options at both 33.5 and 34.

On what basis will he regret buying 33" rubber? The fact a pricey regear won't be mandatory? That his JK will remain streetable with 3:73s?

I don't get you guys when you make arbitrary comments to the effect that life begins with 35" tires...

You'll find a ton of guys here extolling the virtues of 35s. Fewer like me running (and enjoying) 33s. I think if the average 35" tire owner were honest, they would admit they should have done 33s instead of torturing themselves in perpetuity with stock gearing and tall rubber.

I am of course excluding X owners who do 35s right
(with a regear), but it seems less guys all the time are willing to spend the money for new gearsets when that job is no more expensive than a set of five new tires.
