I disagree. New tires will run you $600 bones for a little more clearance. A lift will give you more frame clearance. Both look cool too!

I have found that no matter how big of tires you upgrade to, there is always someone with bigger ones that went through the hole before you. The tires and lift don't do much for you when your sitting on your axles.

The winch will get you out, even with just 1 battery. It just doesn't look as cool by itself.

I have always thought the first 2 mods should be skids and a winch. Protect your underside and be able to drag your own but off it. Lifts and tires just give you the ability to get further into trouble (maybe with no way out without the winch).

That's my 2 pennies, but I expect that I am in the minority.

I'm with you, if you go offroad alone, then you need a winch. Especially with the JK. A stock JK has as much clearance as a lifted TJ.

Two batteries fall into the "nice to have" category. If you're smart about it, you'll have no problems running a winch on a Jeep with one battery. Yes, upgrading to a pair of Yellow Tops is a smart thing to do in the long run...and yes, repeated long hard pulls will destroy your stock battery over time...but not every pull is long and hard.

Putting a winch on the front of your rig is spending money on something that is useful for actual wheeling instead of mods that accomplish nothing other than letting you compete with other guys to see who's got the blingiest wheels and the most inches of non-flexing lift and the highest center of gravity and the smallest weenis.

oh....and btw......one of the guys I was referring to earlier had actually cut out the middle of the stock bumper and put the fairleed in and everything....did a hell of a nice job. But you'll have to search to find it. Maybe he'll chime in...???

I have the Warn plate which works with the stock bumper. It is bulletproof. Ive got a Warn 8274-50 mounted on it.

I made my own out of a piece of plate metal and a universal C-channel mount. local metal shop supplied the metal for free as it was scrap. 35" long by 15" wide. cut it to fit in the frame rails, drilled holes then mounted the universal mount and winch to it. Works like a charm and cost me onlt for grade 8 hardware.
