What to do?
Planning ahead here. When I sell my hotrod and get my 07' Unlimited I need to toughen it up a bit. Budget is a big concern (hence selling my other car). I'll be 90% on road as this will be my new daily driver. In Florida I'm not worried about a ton of flex. It is flat here. Mud is where it is at.
I've tried searching to get the best info I can find and pretty much have come up with 2 options:
1. Rusty's 3.25" basic lift with 4 Mickey Thompson Classic II's with 35x12.50 MT MTZ tires: $2100 shipped to my door (would need to add a spare to that, so I'm guessing $2500 total?) Seems like a killer deal to me.
OR
2. Teraflex BB with shocks, 3/4" spacer for front rake correction. Full set of spidertrax 1.5" wheel spacers, 5: 35x12.50 tires on the stock wheels (could be either Sahara, X, or Rubicon, depends on the best deal my buddy finds me at auction). Not sure on the rubber here. Doesn't seem to be a lot of options for the 18" Sahara wheel (don't like the Nitto, a bit much for me). Not sure if this would save me a bunch of money or not.
So, guide me, what would you do? I went the budget route on my 90YJ, and it ended up costing me more money in the long run. However, I like the stock JK wheels, and it seems like a lot of people are happy with the TF BB. But, I am also not a huge fan of wheel spacers. I also need to make sure it will fit in the garage with either setup. HELP!

Unlike your old YJ, the JK is a coil sprung Jeep and going with a budget setup is a great way to go. I ran the TeraFlex 2.5" BB with 35's, know several people that I go wheelin with now that have that setup now as well and can tell you that it works great

In Minnesota the highway department uses salt to keep the ice off the roads in the winter. We use to keep 2 sets of wheels one for spring, summer, fall, and one for winter.
Why couldn't you keep the stock wheels for road driving and swap them when you need to hit the mud. Then just use cheep steel wheels for the mud.

Not too bad. I'll have to take a closer look at them. So far the price range on 35's seems to be $250-275/tire. I really like the MT MTZ's the best so far ($261/tire), but also saw that Dick Cepek Crusher tire that is only 12" wide ($249/tire). Problem with the Crusher is it has those silly looking skulls all over it. If I do 5 tires and a budget boost, I figure I'll save about $700 give or take. If I end up buying a Sahara, that changes EVERYTHING. 35" tires for an 18" rim are freakin EXPENSIVE.
I just put Super Swamper SSR 35" Tire on my JK Rubicon. I have the 2.5" Teraflex budget boost. I have had those tire on my TJ before and run then for more the a year and a half all year long in Montreal. Those tire are very amazing. They do very well off road, on the rock or in the mud. In winter in the snow the work very good to. You do have to be a little careful about them do they can get little slippery. The tread is very aggressive and bite to snow a lot so be careful it will dig hole and pull you away if you don't go easy on the gas. They have a soft gum and stick very well to ice to. They are radial and do very well on the road they are not that noisy. I just did a 1000km this week-end and I was very impress how quiet they were. As the JK it is more sound prof than the TJ.
As for the Teraflex BB you will be amaze what you can do with this and set of 35. They is a little rubbing at the back on the body or rock rail in the case of rubicon. I will suggest that you trim the body right in front of the rear wheel right under the fender. This will make place for the tire to move up and use all the travel you can have. I will trim mine soon I will take picture and post it on the forum.
We will also like to ride for your day to day use.
I just went to the Winter fun fest neer lake tahoe and I was able to follow all the big rig, TJ, YJ or XJ with 6" lift and 35".
