Question What lift not to get?

Ok, so I’ve seen everyone praise on certain lift kits and with all the available options I’m having a hard time deciding, so I’d like to know who has had ‘bad’ experiences and who to stay away from. I’m not looking at a BB lift, so only complete kits in the 3.5” range, both short and long arm. I’m currently looking at RK, RC, and Clayton as my top three and am still open to others, but would like advise on who to mark ‘off’ the list.

More information needed:
  1. How do you plan to use it?
  2. Will you use it as s a daily driver (DD) with some wheeling?
  3. Will you use it as a super rock-crawler that will be towed to trails?
  4. What is your budget? Is it $500 or $5000?
  5. Complete kit means different things to different people.
My rig is a DD with moderate to difficult wheeling on occasion and I run the Rancho 4" Sport lift. It is a simple, unadjustable kit that uses brackets in lieu of control arms to correct suspension geometry after the lift. I love it and it works great. With a $500 rebate available right now, the kit will cost you somewhere between $550 and $650 depending on where you buy it. The TeraFlex Prerunner kit as about as fine a kit as you can buy and it'll set you back a cool $3800.

Answer those questions and you'll be able to get better answers from members.

wow....I hadn't heard that...I'm glad I didn't go with the 4" pro comp that my local shop tried to get me to do....my TF does just fine in getting the 4" and then some

i'm running a Rough Country Budget Boost.
i would suggest the one with the upgraded shocks. not only do the stock shocks suck, but one of the shock riser brackets (front) broke, leaving me to buy longer shocks anyways.

2,5" has been fine for me. daily driver, with difficult offroading once or twice a month in the summer.

I got the Pro Comp 4 inch Stage I Lift Kit with ES9000 Shocks. Lift was exactly 4". Then again I do not have steel front and rear bumpers, so the weight factor as I add to my Jeep may sag the lift.

I plan to build it to abuse it and will not be using it as a mall crawler. I do not plan to trailer it, but plan to hit trails to it's limits. With that being said, I'm not looking at a BB lift and do plan to build and replace for a complete short arm, or possible long arm kit. Down the road I may move up to 37's w/ new shafts, 4.88's, etc, but for now just getting the lift started and move up from there.

in that case I will pull a plug for Teraflex...awesome customer service, the parts are built to take a beating....and the ride quality is just as good if not better....

It's pretty simple. If Northridge4x4 carries it, its a good lift.

Just picked up the rock krawler 3.5 mid arm. Lifetime abuse guarentee.
In the end you always get what you paid for.
