Default wheel spacers safe?

Forgive me if there is a thread regarding this, I searched and could not find it. But has anyone used wheel spacers? I am getting ready to lift my 07 Sahara Unlimited with a 2.5 lift and 35s. Is it safe and effective to keep my stock wheels and use a wheel spacer? If so, what are the disadvantages, if any, with going this route, rather than buying new wheels. I'm looking at going 35x12.5x17 with a 2.5" lift, and yes I will be doing gears as well with the bigger tires.
Thanks in advance for sharing your knowlegde.

Im running 1.5" spacers with 37's on stock wheels with no problem, just make sure they are tight and check them regularly

Read a lot in this and not personally a fan of the spacers, and I really wanted to be. I don't like having 2 torque points. If you do by them, don't get the cheap ones. Go with spider trax. At that point you will be in for $200-250 (total)

Just like punisher said torque them and check them often. I put a torque stripe straight down the nut and bolt so if it does loosen I can tell. Haven't had one come loose yet.

Posts #9 and #38 give actual data from metallurgical testing of a few mfg's spacers.

So the moral of the story is to get quality components, install them properly, and then remember to actually maintain them.

Follow that advice and you will be fine. We have run them on Jeeps and race cars without a single incident. A good spacer is probably stronger than the wheel!

I've had mine on for over a year without any problems. I re-torqued after 100 miles and then again every 5000 when I rotate my tires. None have loosened yet. I went with spider trax and after reading a few threads I'm glad I did. You should be fine as long as they are maintained like anything else

I have run with the Allpro spacers.....$88 for all 4. I used blue locktite, and checked them after the first 1000 miles. I like the look, and also like the look of stock wheels. I rotate my tires every 7500 miles. I will throw the torque wrench on them, set to 85#, just to check them...

I would not run wheel spacers. Wheel adapters are what you want and properly installed and torqued will be fine.
