Default Winch ideas?

Well here soon i will be picking up some new bumper and im gonna want a winch i dont wanna spend to much money so probably less than $600 or $700 and i've been looking around and just wondering if anybody had some information on what they have and how they like it. I've been looking at getting a Warn m8000 it is deffiantly in my price range and i think it would be a good winch for me cause it will be used but not too often.

I got a Smitty XRC-10 Comp. $539 bucks. With sythetic line which is much safer and lighter than cable. Love it!

CHeck out the Recon 10500 at Truckandwinch.com you can get it from them cheap through ebay. Search threads there is some interest building around them. for under $500, it's a bargain and comes with synth line and is waterproof with a 3 yr warranty.

If you can afford a Warn, go for it. Great winches. Doesn't matter if it is used, they are known for quality and reliability, and as far as I know, about the best warranty in the business. (I've had my 9.5 hanging off the front of my vehicles for going on 11 years now, and it's still pulling strong!)

If you don't want to pony up the coin for a Warn, there are plenty of other, lower priced, options out there. Just do a little homework and make sure of the warranty fine print.

As far as a dual battery goes - it would be nice, and will certainly help, but no, a dual setup is not 'needed'. I ran mine with a single Red Top for 8 years, and swapped in a single Yellow Top for the JK. (Then again, I have never been in a situation where I was pulling for an extended time with the engine off. Base the dual battery need off of your expected usage?)

I was in the same boat up until ten minutes ago. Just ordered my Recon 10500 from truckandwinch.com. Seems like a really good deal and so far have only heard good things about that winch. Check out the thread going on about it right now, there is a link there for the winch and accessory kit. In total my order came to $527.
Good luck with you choice!

I've had a Warn M8000 on my last three off road vehicles:

2008 GMC Canyon

2010 Wrangler Rubicon

2011 Wrangler Rubicon Unlimited (yes there is a winch buried in that snow)

The Warn M8000 winch is a great winch, with good line speed, and adequate pulling power for anything I've needed a winch for. I've never had a problem with a Warn winch, which is more than I can say for other brand winches I've owned. Go with Warn and you know you'll get a good winch. Go with an off brand winch and you may not get a good winch.
