Alot of people I have talked to say buy a Warn winch if you plan on using it oftenly, if not then get a Smitty..? I like smitty more and plan on getting a 9. I guess people like different companies, alot of personal preference.

Wise choice. You will never regret it.

I put on the Warn power plant hp. Its been a great winch. Have used it many time to pull people out of a river here. With a synthertic line its easy to hook up and I just back up. The air compressor on it works faster than many of the small compressors guys have to air up with.
Yes, costs a bit more, but then i save space with a winch that does 2 things.

You are using your winch as a 'tow strap'?? Hell of an expensive strap...

i would say warn as much as i think how expensive it is i got lucky and got a 24 year old warn 8085 for $75 and took it apart cleaned it,greased it, sanded, and repainted it and it sounds so good and works so good that it is amazing. just using cheap chinese winches has shown the difference after getting a warn

That's funny. But I don't think your supposed to do that.

Seems it would wear on the winch break and the line is meant for static loads....isnt it? Good to know it works though.

That has crossed my mind a couple times though lol

Well lets see. If the brake is supposed to hold the winch at max load, then I would think it would be fine with some pulling..
The vehicles are not that stuck, just need a little pull. I did pull another truck, stuck up to its axel and had to have another vehicle anchor me. Then I was using the winch as a winch....
But I don't think that pulling the way I do will hurt a thing. I did read the owners manual and don't remember it aying anything about pulling that way...
