JK 2 doors min 8000 pounds
JK 4 doors min 9000 pounds

I hava the Recon winch 10.500 pounds, 5 reason why i choose that winch:
1: I have heavy armor
2: Synthetic
3: Waterproof
4: 3 Years warranty
5: The price!!!

I can see most owners getting the 9000-10500 lbs winches for a warm fuzzy but really its an overkill unless your Jeep weighs 6000-7000 lbs which is highly unlikely. I'd like to hear what you added that added another 1700-2700 lbs to your vehicles

The extra power comes in handy when you have pull your rig up and over a obstacle like rocks or logs, or there is a steep incline involved.

With that said, I watched Mike Rowe and a few army guys on Dirty Jobs, pull a Hummer out of the sand by hand with a long ass rope and a bunch of pulleys.

FWIW, I have an 8,000 LB winch. Keep in mind that rating is on the first turn on the drum. It's considerably less if you're pulling 20-30 feet out and you don't always get to choose where you're pulling from / to. I don't use it often but I've pulled myself out of the mud just fine. Suction is good for some things but bad when you're stuck in the mud. I've stalled it trying to pull a fellow Jeeper out of a gooey mud hole once it had a chance to sit overnight. It had big tires but was a stripped down 2-door so it wasn't heavy. I was very nervous with that much pressure on the line. It finally took two of us to get it out. I may feel okay with a smaller winch (not 2,000LB small) for where I drive but for the money difference I'd go bigger.

I'd pay the $40 and find a use for it. If anything you could build a crazy ass beer retrieval system for your couch.
