On my way home today, the mountain road I normally take was closed - well, I decided that the road wasn't closed to me and my Jeep! So, I drive over the mountain, and at the base (in a river valley section) I see more signs, and then I see the reason that they had closed the road... standing water ALL over the road - deep enough that you couldn't see the road, just water (looked like a swamp, where a farmer's field and a river had joined together to cover the entire road with water).

Again, there were more signs and barriers that indicated the road was closed, but there was just enough room for me to squeeze past the barriers... again, I decided that the road WASN'T closed to my JK.

So, I drop the TCase into 4HI (just in case it was deeper than it looked, and also because I didn't want ESP to stop me in the middle of it), and slowly drove through. I see a car in my rearview... it's a Crown Vic... I see flashing lights... I panic, and let off the gas as I'm exiting the flooded section. He didn't follow, and instead parked sideways to block cars from trying what I had just successfully done. After me, the road really WAS closed!

I'm proud of my Jeep, and glad that the cop didn't decide to come after me (although, technically, I'm not sure that I did anything illegal - just ignored some signs that don't apply to a REAL vehicle!).

Shocked no cop met you at your home. Would have been a funny ticket, "Illegal water crossing"

My dad an me broke through one of those to yesterday on our way home. We get behind each other almost everyday on the way home from work some how. The road had that yellow tape across it and I didn't feel like driving the extra 20 mins around it, so I went through. Made it no problem and then my father followed in his tahoe and we both laughed our ass' off in our drive way.

Hey there MJS, I thought for sure as I was reading your little tale that you were gonna end up saying that the cop gave you hell for going through the closed road.
I know out west they sometimes close the highways if there is a really bad snow storm...They have these baracades that are a lot like the arm that comes down at a train crossings around here. I'm told that if their down and you go around them anyway you can get a really hefty fine.
I hope that you don't get a ticket in the mail or something dumb like that.
It sounds like it was fun none the less.

I also noticed that you say in your signature that you removed the visor stickers...How did you get them off...Hair dryer?
The ones on mine almost seem like they are melted into the plastic of the visor...they're really on there tight!! When I tried to just peel them off I was almost afraid of ripping the visor material...Yeah, they are that tight.

Hey Chopper. I peeled off my visor stickers by hand, back in February... I had driven home from work, and it was one of those really cold days, so my windshield heater had been on the whole ride home - by the time I was parked at home, the stickers were plenty warm, and just peeled off. I had to go really slowly, and keep them pulled taut as I lifted, but they both came off in one piece without any trouble... hope that helps!

I would say just use a hairdryer to get em nice and warm, then peel with one hand while you push the visor material against the visor (if it's pulling "off" like you describe).

Yea...I'll be givein' it a shot one of these days when I aint got much else better to do.
It'll probably be a little easier in the summer.
All though I gotta say that when I bought my ride off the lot, it was all ready 11 months old, so since you were able to get at yours a lot sooner, maybe the glue just wasn't quite as set as mine has become.
I'm sure I'll be able to get them off. I just haven't devoted the time to it yet.

My plateholder is custom... about 4-5 years ago, the wife bought me a die-cast "barbwire" plateholder for another vehicle... it didn't fit, but I hung on to it. It ALMOST fit the Jeep, but I had to Dremel off part of it to clear the light above the plate. After cutting to size, I spray-painted it black.

That's my recipe - good luck!

Welcome! I think, mile for mile, that CT's got more representation on this forum than most states.

I can't join you this weekend, but thanks for the offer. Here's the million-dollar question for everyone from CT: Where are the good wheeling spots in CT, and where can we do our trail ride this Summer? I wrote this when I pointed you to this thread, but in case you missed it, we're planning a meet-and-ride this Summer... the meet part is easy (any park will do for the "meet" part, or a bar or restaurant if it rains), but there don't seem to be many "safe" (i.e. not likely to result in a trespassing fine) wheeling spots in CT, as far as I know...

Again, welcome, and enjoy the JK - it's AWESOME!

I know one spot but its not big at all , near canton I think its call "kneepack" but I'm not sure about the correct spelling, anyway this is a quick and I can show you that any given day , its still fun
Other than that?,
one more spot right of rt4 near that new parking for biking and walking , right after bridge
but its quite heavy so you need lift and mtr's , I went through it last year and believe me its a punishment for you'r jeep when you don't have a lift.

next , sand pit in rocky hill , small but fun, just don't go there on weekend :-).

Portland, behind fairgrounds, allot of fun, just don't get caught

The thing about CT is that if its fun than its illegal
agrrrrrr
