Yeah, I only have a 2 1/2" budget boost and the Or-Fab Stubby. It does look menacing and I got pulled over on Saturday. He started off by saying he couldn't help but notice the jeep, Blah Blah and then my lift was Illegal. He didn't even ask the height. I just said, Really?

Well after the debate began and we got into the height, I had to pull out the mass writeup on the rule (I think I got it from NEOW site) out of my glove compartment. I played dumb and acted like I might of misread something. (Makes Copies because the jerk took it away) No ticket though because my phone had a calculator and I proved it to him. Plus the rule is so complicated he finally admitted after calling dispatch that they had no Idea how to read it and agreed it is separate measures for Mass. Told him I didn't have a tape measure to see if I was mistaken. Moral of the story, Make a copy and leave it in the glove compartment. Keep receipts on the height of lift from manufacture. I happen to have mine still in the glove so he knew it was a 2 1/2" kit.

I was told not to go to crazy and they will leave you alone. I want to go to a 3" spring kit in Phase 2 and 35" tires. Still need to get a few protection items now.

Massachusetts General Law
Chapter 90: Section 7P. Height of motor vehicles; alteration restricted

Section 7P. No person shall alter, modify or change the height of a motor vehicle with an original manufacturer’s gross vehicle weight rating of up to and including ten thousand pounds, by elevating or lowering the chassis or body by more than two inches above or below the original manufacturer’s specified height by use of so-called “shackle lift kits” for leaf springs or by use of lift kits for coil springs, tires, or any other means or device.

The registrar shall establish rules and regulations for such changes in the height of motor vehicles beyond said two inches. No motor vehicle that has been so altered, modified or changed beyond the provisions of this section or the rules and regulations established by the registrar shall be operated on any way.

Massachusetts Code of Regulations (CMR)
540CMR6.05 Maximum Combined Mechanical and Tire Lift

(1) The maximum mechanical lift for four wheel drive motor vehicles shall be calculated by multiplying the wheel base times the wheel track, and dividing the product by a safety factor of 2200:
i.e., 92" w/b x 58" w/t = 5336/2200 = 2" (maximum mechanical lift).
The outside diameter of the largest tire size available from the original manufacturer as standard or optional equipment for the particular motor vehicle may also be increased up to an amount equal to the maximum mechanical lift calculated.

So lets see:

2 Door Wheelbase = 95.4"
2 Door Track = 61.9"

95.4 x 61.9 = 5905.26

5905.26 / 2200 = 2.68" lift

I guess I'm fine with the Teraflex

True... but I was pulled over 16 times in 9 months for not having a front plate on (it was stolen.... the RMV refused to give me new #'s and instead left me with a special registration to give to the officer until my plates were printed).

I was late a lot in those 9 months, and I would hate to get pulled over for being lifted

WTF?!

True.... but I'm sure at that point you'd be pushing it with the cop!
