I was definately thinking a rear locker would of got you over the hump on that one. If not a front locker might of help but it didn't look like there was enough bite and the wieght was on the back tires.

Since I was working outside I know the leaves were very wet and some covered with frost so I figured you were just spinning. I would of used the go around instead of the winch is all that i would of done differently. I don't have the 37" tires nor the 4" lift so I might of just went to the go around to begin with. I see none of the others tried it so I assume there is a go around.

Small correction: I tried it and made it. Then again, I took the center line and have a feeling that my LSD and short wheelbase bailed me out for my *ahem* overzealous use of the skinny pedal.

I agree the video's don't make it look difficult but since I was on foot on that hill I can tell you it was slippery because I almost fell on my ass a few times. I tried to take a driving shot so people could see the trail we saw it. Obviously it's tough to shift, hang onto the steering wheel, and shoot at the same time.

Anyone wanna go again lol

I've found that on these JK's (especially the auto's) that they do very well without the lockers just by hitting the gas due to the traction conrtrol aids and Brake Locking Differentials. Basically.. when your computer feels a wheel slip it stops it and sends power to the other one. When in 4HI you computer does everything for you and you just keep moving. When in LO range the computer doesn't fight as hard to stop the wheel spin. But, by adding a braking pressure while driving you can control your wheel spin and crawl like you have lockers in it. It is very easy and just takes some practice to learn how much brake and how much gas and when to use them. Also riding the brake allows your RPM to climb without increasing wheel speed giving you more horses and torque to help pull up. Learning how to drive gradma style (2 foot driver: 1 brake, 1 gas) is very helpful in all types of wheeling situations. After you've just managed to get your rig up on that big bolder your reaction to stopping yourself before you slam off of it is quicker and less jerky. Even on steep downhill slopes you try to stay off the brakes as much as possible but, without super low gearing braking is inevitable. If you start to slide due to braking you can just let off.. but if that doesn't fix it... just tap the gas for a second and you'll straighten right out.

Anywho... hope that helps. Come out with us one day and we'll help you out any way possible.
Nicely put TexsDream77... The added benefit of using this method instead of lockers is that lockers have two bad habits: 1). if the back end brakes loose with lockers on you are in trouble because the rear end is coming around. 2). when you have locker are on there is a much greater chance of breaking something. Lockers obviously have tremendous benefit; you just need to be careful with them.

As for the run, cameras never do obstacles justice. You could tell that it was very slick out… and a lot of fun. Hopefully I will have my winch and bumper issues resolved so I can get in on the fun next time!

Thanks for the answers to my question.

Yes, I would like to get out and wheel sometime soon...
Just gotta find a time I can make.

Also have to resolve a death wobble problem that me today on the highway. Just had alignment done this AM after doing the lift a little while ago.
Never had this violent a shake until today. I am going back to the shop tomorrow when they open. THis happened on my way to work tonight.
No way to get there tonight as I am a firefighter and no way to leave work.

I don't like go arounds. There was a center line... but that didn't look like fun. I'm wider than these other guys and I may not have fit well anyway. The pass on the left looked doable... the pass I tried on the right looked a lot harder. And by the time I gave up... you can't tell from the pics.. but I was heading for the huge hole on the left. I would rather use the tool on the front then risk rolling 20K down a hill. Besides... It was an awsome test of my winch. First time I've really needed a pull like that.

just wanted to let you guys know, got the new pan on my tranny and now i know why that would have been some serious coin. to do it the right way i would have had to put the transfer case on a tranny jack and/or remove the first section of the exhaust as it exits the engine. its a damn good thing i was able to go down to Milton and use the lift at the highschool my old shop teacher works at. i had to fenagle the crap out of it to get to the two rear most bolts. any way im 99% outa the woods. kid that was sweeping up scooped up one of the bolts and its long gone, so theres still a little leak but it will be completly buttoned up by tomorrow. ordered an new rear tail light to, if u guys didnt notice during the run mine was a lil Fd up (damn telephone poles, sneaker F'ers come outa no where) like a dumb arse i forgot to get the front right fender light i cracked to, oh well.

lockers is all i have to say make everything so easy lol. On my rubicon no wheel spin up the first big rock. Also on the second one were texas had trouble i took the centerline with the fj no problem. Factory or even aftermarket lockers makes the the whole difference in the world.

Good to hear you got it straightened out. I asked for a magnetic screw pan from craftsman. I put a magnet in a tupperware bucket in the meanwhile and it rocks. I've also invested in the telescoping magnetic light and claw hook thingy. all have come in real handy!!!

All I need now is a hydrolic lift for the garage floor and about 10' higher ceiling

magnets, that reminds me. after everything was done i was wiping out the damaged pan to hang on my wall in the garage and i forgot to take the magnet from the old pan and put it into the new. i plan on having a full service done once i hit 30k (4k to go) i do reber not seeing any filings on it when i took it off so it should be ok for the next 4k miles untill i take her in for a checkup, hopefully they will just pop that sucker in for me no problem, really dont want to drop the pan again my self.
