2015 day runs across the Rubicon

I'll be starting my Day runs this June and wanted to see if there's interest again this year.

I'll post the first date here in a week or so.
Your rig should be in good operating condition on 35's or bigger with at least 1 locker.

Anyone interested?

spinuck 04-25-2015 07:48 PM

Interested, just depends on dates.

richlortz 04-25-2015 08:02 PM

Also interested and also depends on dates.

k0260 04-25-2015 08:44 PM

Same here, otherwise in

fitzb 04-25-2015 11:58 PM

Interested, let me know when...

orangedude71 04-26-2015 11:04 AM

I'll do one time permitting.

BKGM Jeepers 04-26-2015 07:44 PM

Sounds great! Check back for my first date. You should have plenty of notice for time off.

Rippin'AV 04-27-2015 09:18 AM

I just got my Jeep so I'm not quite ready to throw it on the Rubicon just yet but I would like to hitch a ride-along on one of these trip if possible. I've never been on the Rubicon and would love to see it firsthand. So if the dates work and somebody has shotgun seat open I'm very interested in a recon run and getting a feel for it.

Cheers,
AV

I usually have a seat on my runs. However this first trip is spoken for. Just request whenever I put a date up!

BKGM Jeepers 04-27-2015 08:23 PM

This first run will be either June 16, or 17.

So people can prepare if necessary. I'll have which date shortly...

BKGM Jeepers 04-30-2015 10:23 AM

Wednesday June 17, is the date of day run #1 for me.

Please reply if you are interested.

We will meet in Georgetown at about 8-815 and leave for Loon by 830.

Lunch is on the trail and dinner should be at Burger Lounge near the Y at south shore.

Monkeyfist 05-07-2015 06:31 AM

I can make that date happen, room for one more?

BKGM Jeepers 05-07-2015 07:16 AM

Sure!

Just let me know your jeep's details. I'll be posting meeting time/location in about 2 weeks.

I usually meeting in Georgetown, but we can also connect at the spillway if you're plannig to be up there ahead of time.

Just to confirm, you'll need to be comfortable following lines rather than having someone out spotting, and driving at a decent pace.

A CB will be a big help too.

sounds good, i am driving a 2013 JKU 2.5" lift, Nittos MTs, 34s, 4.56s, 6-speed, decent driver last time in the Rubicon 25 years ago (as a passenger), been away from wheeling for some time, what kind of travel time are you thinking, never done it in a day let me know what you think

Cheers:beer: PS it is a rubicon with a CB

I ran a guy from this board across. He had a Rubicon on 35" Nito MTs. He worked out great. I think it will be more about the pace you can be comfortable with. Our group will likely be 4-5 rigs. The rubicon is much more difficult than it was 25 years ago, but I'm sure youve seen videos and run other trails. I've run both Fordyce and the Rubicon in the same day, so it is not hard to make just the Rubicon in a day.

We are doing another Fordicon run this summer, but only selected rigs will be allow to attend that run since it's a very fast pace.

Sounds great!

We run the rubicon backwards. So we start at fordyce, run it, partially air up, eat an early lunch in truckee at mc Donald's, drive to the back of the rubicon and run out to loon.

jonboy74 05-10-2015 12:04 AM

That's a hard core day! Damn!

For me it's why I'm in to wheeling. It's a solid 10 hrs of focused wheeling. It's an awesome experience in my opinion. I usually have a line for my passenger seat which makes it fun for other people as well.

BKGM Jeepers 05-18-2015 06:49 PM

K. Any interest in my first group crossing here? Looks like I've got 5-6 rigs so far.

richlortz 05-18-2015 08:03 PM

Not going to make the 17th. Will be up there the 13th, and about a 1,000 miles of driving the 4 days before that. I'll need to rest. But please post up other future runs.

No problem. I'll have other runs this summer.

BKGM Jeepers 06-05-2015 07:39 PM

Just confirming there will be zero attendance on the 17th from this forum so I know not to look for anyone here? Right?

95% chance I'm in.

Great!

Post some rig specs. It looks like I'll have 7-9 rigs so it should be fun.

Let me know your lodging/camping timing. I'll leave El Dorado Hills around 730. And leave Georgetown market around 830. We will air down at the loon lake spillway bathrooms at 915-930.
Let me know where you'd like to connect.
Brad

Because he would have hit the 65,536 characters per post limit....

I'd be up for a run or two depending on the day. A Monday/Tuesday or Thursday/Friday works better for me as I can turn it into a long weekend.

A Tuesday Day run?
I can do that next.
Just let me know and we can set a date.

Asinine 06-09-2015 07:57 AM

I don't have a specific date in mind. It's a 4 hour drive for me to Loon, so if you post up a day closer to the weekend, I'll be more likely to join in and make a long weekend of it. If I'm driving that far, I prefer to stay a while....

FYI, Rubicon Unlimited on 3.5" and 35s, but only one camera ;-)

I am out buried at work right now, I appreciate the offer and hope to join soon, I will be in Colo. and Moab July 2 thru the 13th so after that would be awesome

Thanks again

jonboy74 06-12-2015 06:35 PM

I have to drop out. I've been have the CEL come on and off over the past month, which I sort of ignored and hoped for the best. But it threw the P0302 code three times in the past 24 hours, and I can hear the ticking now. Have a date with the dealership on Tuesday morning. Looks like a new cylinder head may be in my future...

Have a good run. I'll join one of the runs later this year.

jonboy74 06-18-2015 11:06 PM

how was the run?

Just got my JK back from the dealership, new cylinder head. Ready to go for the next trip!

That was pretty quick.

BKGM Jeepers 06-19-2015 02:26 PM

The run was fairly smooth. 4 rigs ran the trail, with two being first timers.

We were on the trail at 10AM and off airing up at 515PM. The pace was a little slow but everyone made it out.

One vehicle took some body damage but most was because his lift wasn't sufficient to clear his tires under full flex. Always be sure to completely test your rig out before hitting some of the tougher trails!

Two sliced tires occurred on the run. One caused a New MT/R failure that required a trail replacement (using his spare). The other (mine) was one of the new Pro-Comp tires. The cut was small so we quickly plugged it and drove out without even having to add any air to the tire. While airing up, we replaced the tire since I have a spare as well, but I could have driven home on it. I have the hazard warranty so I'll get a new 40" tire for about $100 bucks (since I'll have to pay for another warranty certificate and mounting and the bean bags for balancing).

The entire day we only saw one rig on the trail! That's why I do these runs mid week. The weather was about 70 degrees and there weren't any mosquitos to deal with. It was a great day overall!

While I will probably do 2 more of these runs this year that are posted here (and probably 2 adidtional local group day runs too), I will also be doing a Fordycon run in late August/early September. This run will be limited to 3 completely built rigs. We will run both Fordyce and the Rubicon (backwards) in one day.

Yea I thought so too. Dropped off Tuesday AM, done Thursday evening. Hats off to the folks at Normandin.

Sorry I missed this one, hopefully I can join one of the next ones.

BKGM Jeepers 07-22-2015 02:43 PM

I am planning my next Day trip.

Is anyone on this forum interested in a day run across the Rubicon?
I will try to give a month's notice. I'm thinking the week after Labor day currently.

My Fordyce day trip is set for late August.

Post up if there's interest.

My tire replacement cost $40 total, and that was for another warranty certificate. 4wheelparts did the rest for free. Great company!

Az scooter 07-22-2015 04:52 PM

What do you call a fully built rig? I am on 35's and a 4.5 inch lift with front and rear lockers. Also got a winch. Does that qualify?

Asinine 07-22-2015 07:00 PM

yes, it does. I run it on 3.5" with 35s and so do many others....

The week after Labor Day sucks for me because of work, but nearly any other week should be fine.
