feb snow run
The road between Kirkwood and Iron Mountain is closed (since Jan 1), so to get to Kirkwood means to go back to Hwy 50 and over to Hwy 88, or back to Jackson then Hwy 88. Just so you know ...
I've pulled out many people thinking they could take the short cut through Iron Mountain road. Sure the GPS shows it connecting, if they didn't mind waiting (until the snow was all gone). The guys in that brand new Audi found out that one night was enough for them.
Anyone interested in going to Iron Mountain this weekend?

BTW I can go any day in Feb but the 20th. If that works, great if not I will change things.

There is a road to get to Pipi off of HWY 88, or several other roads. Good snow wheeling, that is if there is snow around 5,000 ft. I had a chance to stay in that area for 3 days. yep didn't m,ove far just stayed in one place. This time I think I'll go with a few more rigs this time. Post up when ya want to set it up.
Larry at this time of the year they close the gate at the entrance to Iron Mountain road via HWY 88. there other ways into that area. well that is if the Forrest service hasn't block the entrances off. there is always a way around
Jeff, we will be going in off of Hwy 50/Sly Park Rd Exit (Pollock Pines area). Go right on Sly Park Rd, go down Sly Park Rd till you see the lake on your left. Then make a left on Immigrant Gap Rd (Aka Iron Mtn Rd). We won't be able to go all the way to Hwy 88. Even though the road actual does. The snow is so deep at the top and your right they normally close the gate just before Hwy 88. The road is something like 30 mile long. Unploughed! Normally you will be locked in 4wd before you get halfway. If we can get above North/South Rd after the storms we are having now, I will be impressed. Thats just above 2/3 way. Then it gets deep. That is the locals spot to go snow wheeling. You will see lots of stuck 4WD's. Hopefully not us!
