You are nuts not to use the pass - you & your wife would have a blast.

Last year I took my wife to Barrett Lake instead. Its a short but VERY difficult trail.
I'm having trouble talking her into spending the money on the Jamboree this year. It's the same issue as some of the others on this forum doing the Molina Ghost run in HH - why pay for something they can do for free. On the other hand the wife has never been to the Rubicon Springs - I'm sure she would love it once she gets there.

I am really interested in this, I should be back from my deployment at the end of April or the beginning of May, and will be picking up my new Rubi. Hopefully my budget will allow me some mods before I can go as they have a minimum requirement of 33s.

I was originally thinking of going with the TeraFlex 2.5" BB and 35s/37's with cut fenders (like Planmans set-up). But I almost just want to save for the 4" TeraFlex LCG longarm which is what I really would like to have in the long run. Anyway, I'll be watching this thread becuase this sounds like it will be a blast.

Yeah I think if you've never run the Rubicon, and the idea of getting out there with a ton of people sounds appealing, then I can see why you'd cough up the $350 a head or whatever it is. The Rubi is a lot more remote than HH, and it's a bigger run involving overnights, so I can see that there are a lot more logistics involved.. it does seem kinda high even still (when you consider that's $700 for what amounts to a two-night camping trip) but people who have gone (which I'm not one) seem very happy with it.

The Molina thing is a little different for me, since it basically just sounds like showing up to HH, which is something most of us do often anyway for a whopping $5/vehicle. It's a park, so it's not like you can really get lost.

Treat any of these as a fundraiser (proceeds for blue ribbon, tread lightly, friends of rubicon, etc.) and it's a totally different story -- just seems like that's never really part of the stated expense...

Actually, the $350 is for 4 days, 3 nights, and includes 12 meals. There are Trail Guides to help at the tough spots on the trail. We have mechanics at the Springs, Buck Island, and along the trail to help with any breakdowns. In 57 years, we've never left anyone stranded on the trail. Live music on Friday and Saturday nights and a vendor fair on Saturday. Last year we had 25 different vendors set up in main camp. We have a raffle (included in the price) on Saturday night. Last year we gave away over $15k in raffle prizes. It's a little more than a basic camping trip. Over the years, we've had people who didn't like the trip, but the majority of our participants have a pretty good time. Try it.

Well said Exgman

--->stormrider, I hope you decide to make the trip- It is a blast!

--->vgullotta, glad to see you are going ~ are you doing the 3 day or 4?
...We are leaning towards the 4, but haven't decided yet. (I like the idea of first pick for camp spots coming in a day sooner )

JeeperDude, at half price, you are getting a screaming deal, take it and run!

EXGMAN
That was a good write up. All most wants me to pack up and head out for the Jamboree. My first Jamboree will be in May at Palo duro Canyons. I bent lower rear control arm, replaced with a Tera-Flex, made small adjustment (more armor).
Thanks for the write up.

To my surprise last year, the actual Jeep traffic on the trail seemed light and we were rarely held up, especially on our way into Rubicon Springs. I would even suggest that we moved faster because we had spotters positioned and didn't have to exit our Jeep much.

You have to consider that there are a lot of vehicles, but they all start at different times and get spread out over about 9-10 miles of trail.
