Default Smittybilt SRC Rocker Guards beware!

I bought these Smittybilts because they looked great and was a great price. I recently went on a wheeling trip and hit them pretty hard on some ledges and I found dents on my lower body where the tube cross members pressed up against them. This happened on both sides of my Jeep. This is likely due to the fact that they do not mount in the center section and have bent inward causing them to press against the body causing the "impressions". I'm pretty ticked off about this. I saw posts on the poor quality of these products but I guess you really do get what you pay for. So buyer beware if you are actually going to use these off-road.

That sucks! I'll be sure to watch out for this on mine.

I probably already know the answer to this, but did you have trouble mounting these because they didn't fit? I spent a good hour cussing trying to make mine fit and finally had to grind em out.

Yeah, they were tough to get on. The driver side went on not too bad. The passenger side was really tough. I drilled out a bit but cross threaded the rear attachment. I was really surprised how much it bowed in the middle. It seemed really sturdy when I put them on.

These SRC's weren't made to go off road - just to protect against door dings. :(

Mine had alignment issues and am waiting for Smitty to get back to me. The design / construction is pretty good - their problem is accuracy and attention to detail - quality control issues.

Shit if they weren't made to go offroad why even make them at all? I mean they look good but they are "rocker guards" meant to protect against "rocks".

Maybe this is something Smittybilt hasn't heard of before? You should give them a call and tell them what happened and see what they have to say. I'd be real interested in their response to this issue.

I went to their site and posted a complaint message detailing the issue. I'm waiting for a response. I will also place a call to expedite. I agree. As advertised as a "rocker guard" it should protect against rocks. It is clearly a design flaw. They should have added the middle mount all along to prevent bowing. I believe the new SRC's have the center mount now but I could be wrong.

I e-mailed them about a bumper I had ordered but wasn't really even made yet. It took about a month to get a response. If you have that same problem, you should probably call them because I got a lot more done via phone. That sucks if they do have a brace now because I just ordered and put mine on about a month-2 months ago and mine don't have middle braces.

Let me know what they tell you.....I have the same problem on both sides! The centre bar dimpled my rockers.

Default Update!

So I submitted a complaint at the Smittybilt website and lo and behold they got back to me via email asking to see pics and a purchase receipt in reference to my complaint. That was surprisingly quick and I was happy to provide what they asked for. So far thumbs up for the quick response and we'll see if they make good on this. If any of you have had this issue, do not hesitate to go to their website and complain too. Maybe this will get them to correct issues for others.
