After doing a search about the 2012's lifted suspension exhaust/drive shaft issue I haven't found anything, so I'll ask it here. At which height of lift does the drive shaft contacting the exhaust become an issue? Also I've noticed that Rancho has a couple of fixes available for options but how about the other suspension companies? Are basic 2.5"s as far as you can go without buying a drive shaft or exhaust fitting?

I have a Rough Country 3.25" lift with the v2 shocks and have zero contact with my exhaust. I've taken it wheeling a couple of times with rivet crossings, trail riding and small rock crawling and have yet to touch. The issue isn't with the lift height itself (within reason) but with the amount of travel your shocks allow at FULL droop. With my RC lift at full droop, I have roughly a half inch of clearance still.

 

HI! I've a 2012 Unlimited with a 2.5" RCX lift and i've a good clearance for the driving shaft without the exhaust speacer.

 

O hit at full droop with 3" and 5100s. I have the TFlex spacers and still hit. No issues with the dive shaft yet and I'm not replacing till it fails. Been lifted for 8 months and almost 15k miles

 

does it hit just in extreme flex??

 

Mine doesn't hit yet. But I have the rk 3.5" max travel and got about 6 up front and 4.5 rear.

 

I have the Rancho 3" Trail with 9000xl shocks and neglected to mount the drop exhaust immediately. The first time out I tore on rib on the shaft boot most of the way around. At one point I had the driver front off the ground so that should be full droop.

I don't think the shaft could touch the pipe but it looks more like the boot got very close and melted about one inch increments with 1/2" sections of unmelted boot. The slip boot isn't really needed but since I bought the pipe already I installed it. Now my concern is that the pipe is very exposed and as far as I know there isn't a skid made to protect the crossover that low. I'm planning on getting an Adams front shaft and either having the old pipe welded back in or trying to get a cheap take off Y.

 

OK, so here we go, and you only have a 3", huh?!

As mentioned, its more about flex (droop) than lift height. I have the AEV 2.5 DS kit on an Unlimited with auto. Not exactly the most flexible kit out there, but my driveshaft boot was too close for my comfort. I opted for the Teraflex exhaust spacer kit. I figured $50 bucks now is better than $500+ later to replace the driveshaft.

 

Well I just stumbled upon Teraflex's youtube video explaining pretty much anything I needed to know.
