Default Hypertech = BIG improvement for my JK!

So I programmed my JK last night using the Hypertech Max Energy programmer's "Regular Fuel" setting, and let me tell you: I'm nothing short of amazed. I made a concerted effort this morning to drive "normally" and not change my throttle inputs from my usual driving style - didn't want to "trick myself" into thinking there was an improvement. Here's what I found during my first drive after programming:

The throttle response is greatly improved throughout the rev range, and the auto trans seems to hold gears a little longer, making the most out of those revs. There's noticeably less delay between the time I press on the gas and the time that it takes for the engine to rev up; additionally, there's no more "dead spot" in the pedal travel (prior to programming, there was a small range of gas pedal travel that didn't seem to really increase engine output much). I don't want to give the impression that it's anything like a supercharger or a Hemi, but driving to work this morning sure was a blast!

When I was pulling out of my condo complex this morning (onto a road with quick-moving traffic), I gave it plenty of gas like I always do, and I actually peeled out for a second! I was shocked. Also, on my ride in to work, I have to go over a "mountain" (long, very steep, winding hill is probably more accurate) and my engine definitely had more pep than usual.... and my trans didn't have to hunt around for the right gear like it has in the past.

I guess my expectations were set too low, because I have to say that this product greatly surpassed my expectations. Probably goes without saying, but if you're considering a programmer for the JK, I'd highly recommend the Hypertech.

I hope that these results last, and I'm guessing that it'll only get better when I move up to 5.13s!

See you on the roads and the trails.

Edit: I should mention that I have an AIRAID CAI installed, and 4.10 gearing currently - I believe that the AIRAID definitely helps!

I used to have a hypertec on my old silverado and loved it. But I was never sure how well it could help our sad little 3.8 V6's but maybe I was wrong this is going near the top of my list!

What size tires are you running if you don't mind me asking? I see you have the wheel spacers and you are waiting for 5.13 gears...so I'm just guessing they're not stock.

Thanks.

I'm running stock 32" tires... haven't installed the spacers yet (only got them 2 days ago!), and won't go up to 35" tires until I have the lift on.

Good to hear. When I eventually go up to 33's I obviously won't re-gear, but will look for some options to offset the larger/heavier tire. One of these things might just help. That and getting the speedo/odometer recalibrated would be a plus.

How does the hypertech reprogramming affect warranty.

Usually, before you take it to the dealer for service, you reprogram it back to stock. Dealer will never know you had the hypertech. In fact, Hyertech recommends that you put it back to stock in case the dealer decides to reflash your computer in the shop and overwrite (and lose) your preformance programming. That could be expensive.

VictorS is right on the money - you program back to stock before going to the dealership... typically, ANY modification to your vehicle's ECU is considered a big "no no" as far as warranties go.

Thats good to hear. Since I was considering downsizing tires due to the lack of power. Programer may be on the top of my mods list.
