Carrizo Gorge adventure - SE San Diego County - March 21-23
Mike, I would also like to make it to trestle. I hear there is a much easier route, which is to walk along the train tracks and go through the tunnels. I believe walking along the train tracks would be better suited for most people (including me), I'd definitely have a flashlight with fresh batteries this time
I would once again have to give Kudos to Bill
(Desert jeep) for organizing such a awesome trip
As always had a great time Even if I didn't make the whole hike, so glad everybody made it down the mountain safe other than a few sore feet 2 and 4 legged ones can't wait for the next one .
And yes this will be an adventure to talk around the campfires

Great adventure. Heard a rattlesnake within 6 feet of me.
That hike definitely was harder than expected.
Our neighbor was lucky my sound board went out else she would have thought she was at the drive ins. Got a new receiver so ready to show a movie w proper sound next time.

Another great trip with another awesome group of people! So thankful for the Jeepin' life. Thank you Bill for organizing a fun adventure that we'll talk about for a long time and that none of us will forget. It was tough, but it was worth it (even though I won't be able to walk normally for days...) Thank you Matt for counting heads and making sure all is well. "Trail of Tears" - hahaha! There may have been more tears if we weren't trying to conserve water! Thanks to all for some really great memories.
Our camp Saturday morning. Pretty cool spot with the trees as a wind break. The stars were incredible!

Planning an adventurous day of hiking and wheeling

Unused railroad that's older than any of us

Getting ready for the hike

Up, up and away!

The first break and Jack is wondering what is happening...

Louie gets to wear his big boy shoes

Lots of ups and downs on this hike. Mostly ups...

And... going up again.

The dogs are lovin' the shade

If you're going to lose your footing due to loss of all muscle control in your legs and trip on anything at all in the desert, do your best to avoid these

Pretty cool. An old Indian grinding rock. Makes you think and wonder what it was like before all the gadgets, conveniences and luxuries that we have today.

Thanks to all that is good in the universe. We're back to the Jeeps

So sweet. The kids were incredible on the hike, and were pretty glad that we were back down

Just leave me alone. Right here.

More photos to come......

LOL
I guess we should've read Bill's post (below) a little closer
It's rated DIFFICULT

I want to stress that the hike to the Goat Canyon Trestle is a challenging one. I plotted the profile of the hike from the trailhead to the trestle. Note the 1300ft elevation gain.

The "trail" involves climbing over a lot of rocks; it's not something you could do on a bike. Check out this guy's review for another opinion: Efmer Trails: Montero Palms to Goat Canyon (Trestle)
Just know what you're getting into before you start out on this hike. If it's not for you, go wheeling instead.
