No, Lytle creek and Gorman mid way between the floor and high desert but in the mountains, near the cities of Rancho Cucamunga and SanBernardino, not considered the desert. Not far from lake silverwood and lake arrowhead. then Lake Hemet is outside of Idyllwild, elevation 4300 feet, its snows there and its in the mountains. WHere did you get your facts.......

Damn, did you guys see the weather forecast for those places? Helloooo? 103 at Lytle Creek for the coming weekend??? Mid 90's at Lake Hemet? Mid 90's in Gorman.

You "real desert" guys have a different definition of desert than us coastal people...we just mean hot temperatures! (she types as she's been enjoying mild high 70's low 80's weather for the past few weeks - oh wait, Sgt. Evil and family have been enjoying those same mild temperatures lately, haven't they? )

Hey if you like primitive camping and don't mind wheelin for a while to get there, try Santa Rosa Mountain. It's just a ways past Lake Hemet. It's at 7200 feet, so it should be cool up there. You can wheel all the way to the top if you like. My favorite spot up there has a running spring. If you go up, be sure to watch the sunset from the peak.

Here's some info. SANTA ROSA MOUNTAIN

SANTA ROSA PEAK

Here's a link to last year's trip LINK

If you go to lake Hemet there is a great trail off the hwy 74 sawmill about 10 min from the lake. I live in Palm Desert and drive up to lake Hemet to get out of the heat, its really not that hot around the lake...

What does yellow post camping mean? No bathrooms?

No anything! It's primitive camping.

Just an official established site with a fire ring, sometimes (rarely) a picnic table. They are marked with a yellow post (literally), hence the name Yellow Post. I think YPs are just in the National Forests.
