Terminals are tight but could use a little polishing. Going to check out my ground wires like suggested.

I would go so far as to check the contacts on the engine block as well as they take high heat and are subject to rust and corrosion more so than the outside edge of the Frame or inside edge of the wheel well. By checking them I do mean remove them clean them and replace them don't just look at them underneath the actual flange there could be rust and corrosion that you're not seeing and that will cause a poor contact point.

Just my 2cts.

I have a similar issue if not the same. Next time it happens put it in neutral and then try to start it. If it fires right up then it's the exact same problem I have. After three trips to the dealership I finally was able to bypass the customer rep and talk directly to a mechanic. He suggested I try that since I couldn't duplicate the problem in front of him. Next time it wouldn't start, I put it in neutral and it fired up right away. He said it was a sensor in the automatic transmission that was not recognizing that the transmission was in the right position in order to start. Putting it in neutral will bypass it allowing me to start it until I got it fixed. That was over a year ago and I never have replaced that sensor. I just put it in neutral any time it won't start and it fires right up. I look at it now as another type of security system.... ( Although a very intermittent one ) It also gives my jeep some character... That, and I'm just too lazy to fix it.

Also, when mine first started doing it I would be able to start it on the second try as well. Then it got worse and wouldn't start at all until sometimes the 5th or 6th attempt. A few times it wouldn't start at all and I would come back a few hours later or the next morning and it would start up without any issues. Hope this and my previous post will help. Good luck.

Thanks for the input. Going to remove the wires this weekend and see what they look like. If it's all good then I'll keep the neutral thing in mind.

It may be that my Jeep just doesn't want to leave the brewery. She's a bit of a lush.
