Birmingham, AL Saturday February 20th
I've got a pass from the wife for next Saturday and I was thinking about getting out and hitting somewhere new. Problem is, I'm not familiar with too many places. I've been to the "park" in Alabaster (Iron Horse) but that's it. Anyone up to going for a ride. show me somewhere new? Not trying to sound too desperate here, wait, yes I am. I'm rolling stock Rubicon suspension and tires at the moment so I wouldn't be looking for anything too wild. I do have a winch on the front so I'm not too paranoid about getting stuck. I'd like to get out, find some new places to ride and meet some people from the area.
Have you checked this place out?http://www.stonylonesomeohv.us/
Its only a year or so old. I have been only on a bike, not sure what the jeep trails are like. The dirtbike area is too well groomed to be very enjoyable, and far to small to spend any time there.
Its a state ran operation, and I am pretty sure they offer recovery if you get stuck or break down.
Should be about ~30 min drive from downtown B'ham. Make sure you post up where you end up going and give a wrte up afterwords.

Stoney Lonesome is too far of a drive. Well it's really only about an hour but I don't want to ride out there and chance breaking something and not being able to get right back. There's the paranoia! My Rubi's my daily driver and only 3 months old. I'm sure I'll get over that soon enough. I've heard the Jeep trails are about a 3-4 on a 5 scale.
Did anyone happen to watch Spike Saturday morning? Extreme 4x4 or something like that was on and I checked it out. Great show! They did a segment on Moab and I had goosebumps! I clicked "record series" about 5 minutes in. Check it out if you haven't already.
PM me if your interested in doing the Sylacauga to Talladega trail (anyone) as that sounds like what I may check out.
btw there is a trail around Trussville, that crosses the Cahaba I believe, under an I-59 overpass. I can find it, but i can't explain it. Its a good ride. My OEM Rubicon had water at the lower door hinge, but never leaked. The bottom of the river is solid too. If you manage to find the trail, it will get you puckered up, but its really no big deal.
well, i had about talked myself into going saturday, but Sylacauga is ~3 hrs for me. When you decide to go to stoneylonesome, PM me and i will meet you there.
