Huntsville Alabama / Tennessee Valley Chat
No worries Jason. Since you and I work in Research Park, maybe we can meet for lunch. Hope you enjoyed your first trail ride. It gets better.....just too much mud this weekend. PM me if you are free this week.
Thanks. By the way, was it you that mentioned something about their antenna getting whacked? If so, was that the radio or CB antenna? I'm thinking of adding a little height to my poor little 2' Firestik - either by adding a spring or quick disco . . . or might just replace it with the 3' size. Just don't want it getting battered, and ricocheting off the JK. Every time I ride, seems like my roof is always scraping low hanging branches.
On another note, I could hear you guys chatting away for several minutes (and maybe a couple of miles) after we split off when we got back into Huntsville. It was just intermittent, but I'm thinking that with a little more length, I could possibly add another mile or two to my range.

Most of the WMA is level 1 and 2. Some level 3 trails connect those, and then there is one solid level 3+ (4+ when wet), and an honest to goodness level 5 that even the 4-wheeler (quads) guys are intimidated by. I want to see our GA brothers tackle the latter - we'd see a ton of recovery techniques by real pros.

Does anybody have a SWR meter to tune the antenna? My 4' antenna was tuned by Quadratec when I bought the package deal.

I have a 4' firestick antenna. I was extremely surprised that the antenna survived the trip. Also, the antenna never did hit the soft top when it was getting bent back due to the low hanging tree limbs. I think it may have hit the 3rd brake light during extreme flex. If I had to do it again, I think I would have bought the 3' Firestick antenna. I may get on anyway and try it out.

I used my winch 4 times to help fellow Jeeps out there this weekend. If you get one, get the accessories too. As a minimum, I suggest a snatch block, a tree savor strap and some good load rated d-rings. In my recovery bag I have 4 ARB 3/4" d-rings, snatchblock, 2 tree savor straps (3"x6'), 2 recovery straps (3"x30'), and leather gloves.

Man, I did learn it's better to go throught the middle (most of the time) than around the edges of some of the larger mudholes.
