OBA Installation
I want to join and share this thread... My wife got me the same constant duty viair OBA system... I'll be getting it next week. I was worried about the 2.5 tank not fitting on the engine compartment, but i like your idea with the red skid plate.
I have a couple questions for the OP or VIAIR to start getting ready for install and know if the install will work for future plans:
1. the installation hardware provided is enough to install everything as you ar installing it?
2. As asked before, can you explain or show how you installed the compressor behind the brake light?
3. Will the tank be OK if/when river crossing? Is it OK that it gets submerged in water?
4. How often do one needs to check on the aire pressure gauge? I feel it's kinda far away where you put it, but don't know if it doesn't really matter or if it is really useful to have it closer in the driver's area.
5. I am planning to add air horns in a couple weeks after installing the OBA, what should i take into account for this? Will i need extra hardware? Is it OK to add this horns after installation? Or should i wait to get the horns to be able to add them to the system?
Hope the answers are useful for the OP too... And sorry for taking the thread for me too.

I guess you can always google it too.
Good luck.
I came to save the day
1. the installation hardware provided is enough to install everything as you ar installing it?
It depends on how you install the OBA. Once we set everything up with the compressor under the hood and the 2.5 gallon tank in the back mounted to the rear storage top, there wasn't enough hose to reach that far back. You will realize once you start putting it together that you will see the way they did it and the way you want to do it doesn't match and sadly you will be making a trip or two to the store to purchase odds and ends to make it all work.
2. As asked before, can you explain or show how you installed the compressor behind the brake light?
I didnt mount mine there. Mines under the hood.
3. Will the tank be OK if/when river crossing? Is it OK that it gets submerged in water?
Ok so that's a valid and good question. I'm leaning towards the fact that unless you make it as much air tight and water proof as possible, then you will have issues. I mounted my electric regulator straight to my tank. You will have to spend more money purchasing the air manifold kit from jeep swag or one off a site that sells them. To put it in easy terms, the place you're wanting to mount it, is going to make your life a living hell... You're going to be running 12ga ground/power to an source all the way to the front, then more lines to where ever you mount the electronic reg. my recommendation, is put it in a normal spot and call it a day.

I guess you need to see my gauge to see that this is an invalid question. You cn mount the gauge any where you desire, just have to run airhose to it is all. Where most rubis have the power window switches, a friend of mine made a special cut and we installed the gauge right between the two air vents, looks good if you ask me.

You shouldn't need extra hardware as long as the horns come with what you need to add to the air source. With you wanting to add all of this stuff, I recommend getting an air manifold to install under the hood of your jep so you can add things as you need them.
lol you owe me a beer
