Alpha Expedition: Gobi Roof Rack.
One of the trade offs in my marriage is that I've had to learn to make mechanical assists for turning two man jobs into one man jobs. Pulleys, levers, rollers, you name it. I'll have to engineer something to make it easier. Or stretch my ten year old.
Looks like I'll be installing tomorrow night - any tips?

I find that for basic rack manipulation, you don't need much mechanical assistance. An extra pair of hands is useful for hefting the thing up on top of the rig in the first place.
One tip -- I attached a ratchet strap to the D-ring stuck in my hitch, then ran it around the spare and to the cross-bar in the back. If I put some tension on it, I can undo the lightbar connections without the weight of the rack resting on my soft top. Then, I can come around to the back and use the strap to ratchet the rack back and out of the way.
I don't have any pics of this setup to my knowledge, but I do find it useful. I now have a tent mounted up there, so I plan to use this method when I finally get around to installing my quick disconnects.
