Alpha Expedition: Gobi Roof Rack.
David,
I just saw this the other day on a different forum, and noticed it was different than my rack which I bought in February. I think this could be the solution my problem. My rack has the anti-sway tensioner mounted on the rear of the bar, and this one is moved to the front. I find that mine is sort of hanging off the rear of the body work, only pressing about 50% on the frame. I think I'll make up a tab and weld it on. Were you aware of this change?

Compared to mine (you can just see it):

I know some other people have had this issue, looks like an easy fix. Glad to see they addressed it!

Actually I have also just recently found out about the minor update on triangular metal plate. and the tab to the front. Currently I have the same version as yours as well.

You do NOT want to remove the tensioner. It help control the side to side sway of the load. And as for the location of the tensioners go... as long as it is on the side of the body it will assist the side to side sway doesn't matter if in the front or the back.
I was just thinking about these too. Mine (on a 4 door) also press on the very rear corner of the pad on the body. That has, over time, pushed the pads off the front and they are slowly starting to peel off the body at the front (I'm assuming from wind, weather, and pressure to the rear). I was debating just removing the pads and tensioners all together since the rack seems so solid anyway. Not to mention, I forgot to loosen these in the past and almost ripped my rear light off one side. Has anybody else just removed the tensioners all together?

The front driver/passenger side is wide open. There is an optional Sun roof insert for the rack for additional storage area.
