Default Gobi wind Deflector

What is the Poly tape for to put across the top of the windshield and frame before mounting the wind deflector? Anyone not put this on?

It's to protect the paint -- if you think about it, getting even a little bit of dust between the rubber gasket material and the windshield frame, coupled with the normal side-to-side motion of the rack, would eat through the paint pretty quickly. This allows the rubbing to occur only between the plastic protector and the rubber material leaving your paint intact.

It's obviously not functionally required for the deflector to do its job, but I'm not sure why anyone wouldn't want to install it

Because the wind caught mine as I was putting it on and jacked it all up...I couldn't use it after that.

I do like those new rear support bars better. My metal triangles had spun almost 45 degrees upward, and I lost the driverside one. I just finished taking the other off and using goo-gone to remove the adhesive residue.

As said above, I got my wind deflector on today. Looks much better than my homebrew, but I am getting a bit more windnoise with this one than with my own design. Still very happy with it.

****Updates*****

- To all future Gobi rack purchasers: Alpha Expedition and Gobi Racks will start try to cut down the mfg lead time by half for all JK racks starting next month. This will exclude ANY custom order rack(s).

- The adhesive on the back of the tri-angular metal padding is a wear and tear material ( preventing paint damages). If the adhesive on the padding no longer stick, or lost of padding(s). You can contact me, David @ Alpha Expedition or directly with Gobi for free replacement.

-Recent discussion regarding the stabilizing knobs's mounting location changed recently by Gobi has been confirmed that it was no real benefit on the sway of the rack. Please do not panic. Everything are under control

- Per many's requests. The passenger side ladder will be soon available for purchase next month. Which it will better assist the accessibility on to deference area of the rack.

- Due to recent increase of frieght cost All Gobi rack have a price increase from $1399 to $1499. However, a free Wind Deflector will be included as a standard Pkg.

- Free ladder, Free quick Disconnect, Free shipping special has once again reactivated. ( and yes a Free Wind Deflector still included since it is now a standard pkg.)

My rack arrived this morning! The delivery guy had to ask what exactly it was. His paperwork said it was an auto rack. He was interested because he said mine was the 5th one he delivered in the last few days.

Should have it together and on the jeep before Monday. I guess I need to put the hardtop back on (I don't have a softtop)

Mine also came in today. The box was beat to hell, but the rack was intact. I opted for the sunroof insert instead of the quick release as I have the hard top and will not be disconnecting it. The rack is sturdy and HEAVY. I can see my CG and MPG going to hell, but it's worth it for all the storage possibilities. I can't wait to put it on. I will post some pictures as soon as I get to it tomorrow.

I may keep it off for a month or so. .. I am still debating. But once I put on the Gobi taking the hard top on and off seems like it would be a PITA. I essentially would have to take off the Gobi and then put on or take off the hard top and then put the Gobi back on. I suppose if I could get this routine down smoothly I wouldn't mind. The lifting shouldn't be a problem because my hard top lift in my garage can easily be used to lift the Gobi, but it just looks time consuming.
