Hey Kat. In the research that I've done, everybody (that I've come across) is using .120. I looked at .188 and .250 but the cost is WAY too high. The .250 is almost four times that of .120.
I wouldn't tell you that these are made for a drop on a rock directly to the tube. The stock sliders are designed and built for that. These would be for holding your JK off of rocks and trees to the side.
If you're wheelin that hard, you may want to consider a solution like Offroad Evolution's sliders, that attach to the rocker panels. I'm still not sure that it will handle a direct drop to a rock on the tube though.
