Thumbs up

Finally got the time to install Wood's new hi-clearance muffler relocate kit. I had half the old one installed with a mini-tip Brett loaned me until the new pipe went into production.
Turns out that Brett pretty much re-designed the entire kit, including a new muffler configuration, sway bar lowering brackets to make room, and an entirely new rear pipe. So, all I really reused from the old kit was the cut of the stock exhaust and some clamps. I must say, the new pipe is sweet! no clearance issues, even with Woods Tub replacement installed, but it uses every bit of the space available to stay out of harms way.

The new Muffler:

A pic from low behind the JK. Shows the sway-bar lowering brackets and how the new pipe snakes it's way to the rear.

Another pic of the pipe from the right side:

One from the left side. This tip won't get smashed easily.

All in all very pleased, especially with the much-improved clearance over the previous design, and with the assistance and customer support provided by Brett.

your pictures turned out a lot better than mine. I had my relocation kit on the trail and had no issues with contact at all.

I got the 18" muffler, I love the sound of this setup!

I had the 14" for a few months and it is definitely louder, but I don't think the JK 6-banger will ever have the deep rumble of a V8. The new 18" muffler seems to damp out more of the highs, making it sound a bit less 'ricey', as well as a bit quieter. Just loud enough to hear the engine (handy with a manual trans), but no annoying drone inside. Even though the muffler is bigger, the location is well-protected by the control arm frame mounts.

hmmmm..I was just wondering..what is the capacity of the rear tub?? (in beer cans) it looks to be around a 30 pack?...with ice of course...or is it less?..I usually carry a recovery bag so the tub would definatly be more useful as an ice chest

Anyone have a significant drop in gas mileage since the installation of the Woods muffler kit (18 inch)?? I've dropped over 2 MPG...

Brett.....is this normal? I went from a solid 18.8 average to a solid 16.5 . It's been on now for over 1500 miles, I've kept my driving style exactly the same, and I've been keeping track of the mileage ever since.

I really want to say though...."I love this kit" the sound and the look from the rear (without old muffler hanging down) are really nice...very happy with it other than the gas mileage drops..

Best,

Tony

This is the first that I've heard of a drop. I had two others closely track their milage, one on the computer, one using real world data and both noticed a 2 mpg gain. My personal opinion is that driving style has way more effect than the muffler change. I know that because I like the sound of my exhaust, I tend to drive harder, because I want to hear it. Just my 2 cents.

I don't really "get in to it" that often....occasionally when I'm trying to pass some idiot driver in front of me...lol
Weird thing is...it seems like my shift points have changed a bit...like I'm getting to 2500 rpm faster and at a slightly slower speed than I was before the mod. Then again, it could all just be in my head because, I really didn't pay much attention to it before modding...lol

P.S. If you have a 6 speed (with stock tires), let me know what you're rpm is at 60 mph.....thanks
