Suggestions for Tuffy full console
The JK Rear Security Drawer went from $464 to $591 on the Tuffy web site which is a difference of about $127. Dealers selling Tuffy products may vary from this on the price. Basically we were losing money on the box at the $464 price. When we come out with a new product we have to base pricing on estimated labor and material costs to produce the box in quantities. We then carefully track every cost that goes into making the box with the expectation that as we become more efficient we will see cost savings. Our end of year analysis on the JK Security Drawer showed that we were not doing well on the JK drawer at all. There is a certain margin that we must maintain in order to continue producing a quality product, advertising that product, and continuing to R&D new products. Some of the Tuffy products actually went down in price for 2008 because we were able to leverage efficiencies into lower production costs and pass the savings on to the consumer. Unfortunately, material costs are skyrocketing again. We just got word that metal costs are expected to rise another 10-15% in the next couple of months. Corrugated cardboard (shipping boxes) also went up 10-20% this year as did welding gasses, freight costs, and hardware. We are diligently working to press suppliers for better deals and reduced costs.
Maybe a longer answer than you were looking for, but it was a fair question and I think you deserved a complete answer.
I am hesitant to give any dates since last time I said "a couple of weeks" has turned into a month and a half. I will say that the drawing process has begun and prototypes should be made in the next couple of days. If all goes well, the finished product will follow shortly after. Thanks for the interest.
While you're at it tuffy...how about a simple overhead security console that's simply bolt in...no mods, no pre-assembly tear down of vehicle trim, that one who has NO NEED for an overhead radio/CB/whatever could buy and install in minutes? BTW, inspite of how hard I tried, your web site instructions for installation of many of your products continues to leave me baffled.

There are no current plans to make an overhead console other than one that secures a radio or CB. It may be something we take a look at but we would try to maintain a security aspect to it.
Sorry if our instructions are unclear. Maybe we need to take another look at them. The current JK Overhead Security console is actually pretty simple to install. We made it so it mounts to factory locations with no drilling or special assembly. We even made a special bracket to fit around the footman loop on the windshield frame so that nothing has to be disassembled. You do have to undo the factory soundbar to access a couple of the mounting holes, but this only requires unscrewing (6) screws and then screwing them back in.

You can purchase locksets that all have the same key #. Locks for the console and glove box are $15/each and can be matched to the lock on your Cubby cover. It is super simple to change out the locks and only takes a minute or two.
How do y'all feel about field trips? My buddy ('05 Rubi) and I were thinking about coming over the mountain when things warm up a bit and visit you in person. Out here there's not much chance to see a product in real life before buying it.
