What would you like in a snorkel design?
I could be wrong, but I don't think you would need to cut anything. The pics from SEMA look like that small piece of metal cowling is removed, not just cut but unbolted and thrown away. As for the the air flow, the upper snorkel would actually force air into the intake as you are moving. I am not sure about the "short" snorkel. You bring up a good point.

Actually, this is for the 3.8 engine - the 2012 airbox is different, and will require a slightly modified connector to the stock airbox, which they have not developed yet. So even once they are released in the near future, you will still have to wait for the 2012 version.

the point of this snorkel from the beginning was very little cutting and easily reversed. The only cutting is to remove the corner section from the fender where the actual snorkel goes, and some plastic, I think.
