sorry if i missed it (i only scanned 20 pages) do you have a picture of the most recent version without a light bar? just so i can see how much of a gap there is between the windshield and the snorkel.

I am wondering the same thing...where is the air comming in here without the upper part connected? Is it being sucked in from under the area where the metal peice is? If so, isn't this pretty much the same height as the stock intake? Im confused...

So far I'm liking it! Will it work with different roof racks, assuming they use a smaller diameter tubing than your lightbar? I'm guessing it would, but figured I'd ask.

I do think scaling the ram air down with your own design will drastically improve the scale of things. How does the prefilter top look (similar scaling issues A's this ram air)?

I'm really liking this. I'm also wondering about lower intake and the possibility of sucking up water thrown by tires.

Which is why I went with the ARB Safari. Glad I did too. The RR one intrigued me when I first read about it but not now I've seen the design placing it in the windscreen like that. My Safari snorkel is very effectively hidden behind the windscreen upright meaning the only part I even notice when driving is the intake. Add to that the fact that I can run my windshield lights without hindrance as well as an expedition roof rack system AND a light bar if I was so inclined. So for me, the benefits of the Safari design far outweigh the main benefit of this one (as I see it) which is not having to do any major cutting and being able to remove the raised snorkel and intake as and when.

Location, location, location...like buying real estate!

I believe the issue with the stock intake is two fold. At the front of the hood, more likely to get hit with a bow wave, and the other issue is the serpentine belt apparently has a tendency to fling water up on top of the stock intake allowing it to be sucked in.

If you are going to be crossing water deep enough to get to the RR one seems to me you should be fitting the rest of the snorkel to it.

Anyway, that's how I understand it. Loving the modular design as I don't have a need to run the high snorkel most of the time. Also, I sure don't want to cut a big hole in my quarter panel either.

Default Safari v RR on Driver's Vision

OK, just to give some perspective and credence to what I said above I've done a few shots to show what I mean.

First off, here's the shot we have thus far of the RR snorkel from the outside, which roughly shows it's mounted position just within the windscreen itself:

This shot shows the position of the Safari snorkel relative to the upright and most importantly the windscreen, since that's what we look out of:

OK, on to the actual view from inside the Jeep. Here is the RR snorkel:

And here's the Safari snorkel from the exact same position:

Now mine is a right hand drive JK but for these pics that is neither here nor there. In a LHD US JK what you will see when you're driving with the RR snorkel is this:

Running the Safari snorkel what you will see is this (minus the steering wheel):

And if you're in Australia, UK or any other country driving RHD JKs all you will actually see whilst driving is this:

To me, the vision I have out of my windscreen is of utmost importance and I'm simply not going to impair or degrade it to that degree, even if the snorkel in question is a bit cheaper, partially detachable and requires a lesser degree of cutting. Add to that the other minus points outlined in my post above and this one just doesn't stack up for me. Just my personal opinion, though, and YMMV..
