10'TH Anniversary Paint Problems (Anvil)
Well it's official. I waited 3+ months for some crap paint. Anyone know when they hired Stevie Wonder at Jeep?
Seriously though, the worst is a about a 4" run in the tailgate but there are several other spots that I have found. The tailgate run you can actually rub your hand over and feel. I would say about a 1/4" outward protrusion feel when moving back and forth over the top of it. When looking at it from an angle you can see the hump.
The drivers door jamb looks like someone took razor and made perfect little lines all down the door jamb then painted over it. They are very deep and the paint is very rough. No wet sanding happened here for sure.
The passenger side is perfectly smooth. The color of the paint makes this hard to see in the pictures but trust me they are there and they are pretty big flaws in my opinion. These really do them no justice. Just giving something more less for you all to reference not to actually judge the severity of the flaws.
So before some people chime in and say it's a Jeep not a Cadillac or a Mercedes I will go ahead and respond. I have owned plenty of Jeeps and scratches, chips, dings, etc. that I do on my own don't bother me. It's part of being a Jeep owner and each one adds some character and a memory. With that said, when I or anyone else buys a $40K special edition JK that is sitting in my driveway with only 50 miles on it, yeah I and probably the consensus of you would expect it to be blemish free until decided otherwise. Pretty disheartening when I have read several other stories of problems (cracked hardtops, mismatched shifter caps, hood vent falling out when opened) with the 10A. I can guarantee you if this would be a Cadillac or even a Chevy or Ford you would not be seeing this.

Jeep actually does that on purpose so you don't feel so bad when you put your first ding in it.,,,I am picky and it would bug me. My 2013 Bright white has perfect paint. I would bitch but I don't know that they will do anything but you won't know until you try. congrats on the new jeep.
Tailgate flaw sucks, but the door jambs get f*cked up anyway. It's impossible to keep them perfect as your shoes are constantly whacking/scraping across them as you get in and out, even if you're careful. On my Cosmos blue Wrangler, a passenger's shoe knocked off a small chunk of paint down to the metal. I've added the black Mopar door sill protectors on all my Wranglers. They'll cover up most if not all the marks on yours.
Like you said, for 40k you should get a good paint job. I would take it in and see what they can do to fix it. If it was damage caused by you it would be understandable, but poor workmanship isn't acceptable for that price.

Definately take it back. On my new rubicon 2 of the wheels were missing clearcoat. The dealer just replaced them. For the price of these jeeps, the paint should be perfect.
Also, based on the picture and description it looks like they may have repainted the side and maybe tailgate after the fact. I have heard of dealers having damage on the lot or with delivery and then repairing the vehicle without disclosing to the new owner that it had damage.

It's not so much that the bad paint itself bothers me as much as the principal behind it. I don't see how they can release a $40K vehicle with these kind of paint flaws. This is the 10'TH anniversary edition of their flagship vehicle and one would think they would take a little more pride in quality control. With today's manufacturing processes there is no reason for this Jeep or any of the others out there to have issues like this. I can guarantee you that you can go to any new foreign or domestic dealer and find the cheapest new car there and will find no issues with the paint.
Chrysler has always had a problem with quality control of their paint (among several other things) and it's evident they have not gone out of the way to do anything about it. Do they think we as consumers will never see these blemishes or just not care?
I can hide some of what I have found as I always throw entry guards on anyways but the tailgate is going to be a little bit more tricky. The only way I see fixing it will be a repaint and I don't especially like the thought of having the factory paint seal broken on a brand new vehicle but the truth of the matter is I shouldn't even be sitting here having to deal with it.
I guess some of the blame lies upon myself. I should have inspected it a little better before I took delivery but it was getting late and of course I was excited. I only yesterday was able to do a thorough walk around and this is the result.
I have shown my dealer and they are (believe it or not) upset about it too. This has been a long waiting process for all of us. They have offered to back the deal out if they still can and order another or find one somewhere else. I'm really not sure what to do at this point as it has me more disgusted than anything. I'll keep you all up to date on what is going on.
