2012 rubicon ready for its first oil change
So allmost 3000 miles on my rig and wanted to know has anyone changed the oil on one, guess i should go get a couple filters and wondering what kind of oil. do a couple with reg oil or start off and just start running syn. any help would be great.
Changed the filter element on my 2012 at 500 miles (two days ago)... I've gotta say, NOT a lot of shavings at all! Counted maybe a half dozen teeny little specks here and there, but that was it!
Will probably do the oil at 1500. Factory fill 5w30 smells like dino. I'll probably run dino to 5 or 6k miles, then switch to synthetic.

Did you get your filters at the parts store or dealer, ive been checking the oil and still looks really clean at 2200 miles so i figured id just wait till 3000 the dealer say 5000 miles...wow. i took my mazda 3 in at 500mi they thought i was nuts.
I was away from home for my first oil change on my '12 Rubicon at 5000 miles. I am at 7800 now and would like to see some pictures of an oil change to make sure that I am doing it right for the next go around. If you want to take a couple pictures I am sure the community would appreciate it!
Cheers!

Easy-cheesy on the Pentastar! Just changed out at 1000 miles, and I will again at 5k, and every 5k after that.
Oil filter cap needs a 15/16" socket on 6" extension. Oil filter attaches to the inside of the cap: just wiggle it back and forth and pull it out (look at end of new filter to see how it attaches). I thought the MOPAR filter would come with a new O-ring for the cap, but it didn't — I just removed the "old" one, and greased it lightly with new oil and put it back on. Snap the new filter into the cap securely and slide the new filter & cap over the spring in the oil filter canister on the engine. Torque the cap to 25 N•m (about 18 ft-lb). It's hard to get the torque right because the spring inside, so just guesstimate: it's not a structural fastener or anything, just don't crank down on it.
Oil drain plug is a 1/2" socket.
All there is to it!
