Default The 3.8L is awesome!!

Ok not really, but I feel I need to give some thoughts here. I have '09 JKUR with 85,000 miles and this will be my 4th summer towing a 3500# plus boat about 150miles each way to fish the northern gulf of mexico. And we go alot!! Needless to say the motor is maxed out. But when I come to the bridges she puts out a sweet 5,000 on the tac a chugs away. I have run premium fuel, CAI, superchip and flowmaster for all of the 4 years. It burns no oil to speak of and has had 5-30 royal purple in it from mile 5 - 85k.

Now that I am getting to the end of this motor, and i won't lie, the 3.8 sounds like it might throw a rod at any moment when under gun like I use it. Point being though, IT HASN'T!!

I will be doing the 5.7VVT next summer I believe. I would love to know if anyone in Louisiana has done this and would meet up to give me the inside knowledge on what I can expect.

Also welcome any other positive comments on the mini-van 3.8. I know I have whopped mine for a few years now, and although not impressive she has tugged and tugged.

If you've gone 85k and haven't had any complaints from the motor, I'd say you're still just getting started and are on track to hit 200k pretty easily, right?

It's slow, but simple...

Oooo yea maybe, but a flowmaster under the rear driver side passenger and 5000 rpms, isn't exactly pleasant road tripping...lol

It might not be a powerhouse, but it's built to survive a soccer mom.

I have 60k+ on my 09 and been running Mobile 1 in it. It uses no oil at all and been running 35s on it for most of those miles.

As an '09, if you are original owner, you should have lifetime powertrain warranty, including the engine...drive it till it dies! Then get a new motor...unless you have the cash flow for a Hemi.

I have lifetime but intend on the Hemi in my 10-year plan. So around 220K miles is my estimating.
