Advice on purchasing used JK
EDIT......... Update on page three.
First time post, but been lurking and reading for awhile now.
I just put a deposit on a used JK to be picked up this Saturday. After the deposit, I get a call 'explaining' some issues with the jeep.
It's a 2008 Sahara, both tops, RER Nav system, remote start and the best part....only 2,900 miles.
I asked why so little miles and they said it was a weekend fun car that they never drove. Then late today I got a call telling me the real story. It was a Chrysler buy-back. Apparently the car kept stalling and shutting down. They say that everything was fixed and it's like new now. They said they replaced the remote start and nav unit.
I imagine with less than 3000 miles it is like new. It has all the features I wanted and low miles.
They are asking 25,999 for it.
If the stalling caused a few issues they owner could have enacted the lemon law because of buyer-remorse. Or it could have truly been a headache and he was glad to get rid of it.
So, they say there is 15 months of warranty left. Would I have any recourse with the warranty if it's not really fixed?
Should I run away, or does it sound like a decent deal?
Thanks,
Craig

I would ask for some off the price. They had a reason for not selling the real story at that price. Now they are easing you into it. Not necessarily a run away problem but they knew the price was too high with a story like that. You boil a frog by easing up the heat not dropping him in a boiling pan. Ask for some concession on their part if they are now revealing that it was a lemon that had to go back to the factory. At least tell them you expect a lifetime warranty like they used to offer for first time buyers since it is essentially a renewed vehicle from the factory.
The ball is in your court and you have leverage now. Don't waste it.

Depends on the prices where your at but I just bought my 08 Sahara 4dr with 30k at 24k and after trade I walked out at 18k.
I'd say, with the factory warranty its not a bad deal at all. Mine only had the hard top and the no nav. Here, an 2010 Sahara, brand new, goes for about 28k.

My advise would be not to bother. If they weren't up front with you as you looked at this vehicle and they had to contact you by phone to mention the "oh ya we forgot to mention" crap. What makes you believe they will be honest in your future dealings.
Besides a 2010 model is a few thousand dollars more.
My 2011 Wrangler Unlimited Sahara 4x4
Base MSRP* $29,945
Grant it this is with out nav. When I bought my Rubicon I talked them down $2500. below the sticker with no dealer make up. Do yourself a favor, just save for a new one. That way you will have no regrets.
That's My Advise.

But if you end up with this one, have them guarantee another buy-back if you run into the same issues. (without having to resort to lemon laws...)
