Yeah a few auto makers are doing that now including Porsche. Ford has been using a sound tube that pipes engine noise into the cab.

A little off topic but try unbolting and removing the 50 pound muffler in the back and leave the resonator. I did it on my 12 2 door. No drone and a pretty good sound too. Best part it is the cheapest exhaust u can get FREE!!!! And the exhaust is like a high tuck for good clearance.
