Default Automatic Door Locks

I've heard that there are directions in the owner's manual to prevent the doors from automatically locking when you go 15mph. I've looked all over and can't find it anywhere. Does anyone know how to do this or if it is even possible? I've found out how to turn off the beep when you lock it, unlock all doors on one key press, etc..., but I can't find this anywhere. Someone please tell me that I'm not just blind.

I don't want to hijack the thread, but I would like to know if power door
locks are standard or are they an option?

There an option, but after having them I don't think I'd have it any other way.

I do not think there is a way to disable the automatic locking. I am curious why you dislike feature so much?

I personally really like this feature and don't see what problems it can cause. Seems like a great safety feature.

I can't speak for the original poster, but I loathe this feature. I like to be in control of the functions of my vehicle, and not have it do things of it's own volition. If I want the doors locked when I'm driving (as I often do), I'll lock them. If I don't lock them, I want them to stay in the unlocked position I left them in. I would snip wires in the doors to disable this feature, if that was the only way to make it stop working.

As for the safety aspect, this is a bit of a sore point with me. Safety, above all, comes from awareness. If I want to feel safe, I take the actions that make me feel safe. I do not expect my vehicle to do it for me so I don't have to think about it. If I'm not thinking about it, I'm not safe.

I'll climb off my soapbox now.

I've finally become accustomed to this "feature". Jeep has graciously positioned the lock actuator in such a way that it can be depressed while opening the door. So it took about two weeks, but my thumb just "knows" to unlock the doors when I'm exiting the vehicle.
The downside for me is the locks are being cycled way more than they would. So if the solonoids wear out from use then they did me no favor.

I am curious about what the locks are protecting us from. Is it the door unexpectedly opening? Carjacking? Childproofing?

On my 4 door Shara all you have to do is pull the door handle and it will unlock the door .this only works on the front 2 doors.in the back you must 1st unlock the door then pull the handle.the back doors also have child locks.the auto lock are irritating when you need to get something out of a door some one has not exited from because their still locked.i can not not find a override.

I don't like having to unlock the doors again just to get something out of the back or from a door that I didn't use to leave the car. I have no problem getting out of the car because I only have the two door so they open up fine from the inside. My problem is just that it's annoying having to unlock the doors when there wasn't a reason for them to lock in the first place. If the handle unlocks the door, what advantage is there to locking it in the first place?

Speaking of disabling things, anybody know of a way to disable the seat belt chiming? Again, I'm all for safety, but I don't need that incesent chiming to remind me to put my seat belt on.

It seems to be a worldwide thing, I have see this on many car for a couple of year and you're all right, if you still can open the door by pulling the handle, someone will have to explain to all of us why they do that. The only thing I can think of is that you are sure that all doors are locked every time you drive your car so if you only lock the driver side manually, the insurance company are sure the other ones (1 or 3) are locked. Does it make sence??
