Automatic Door Locks
I got so excited when I ran out to do it that I forgot which way to press the lock. But apparently it worked because it no longer autolocks my door and if I lock it manually, it automatically unlocks it when I get out. Thanks!
Awesome, thanks!!
I apparently got so excited when I read this that when I ran outside to test it, I forgot which way to press on the door locks. I ended up doing it both ways and pressing it multiple times, but now the doors won't lock automatically and will unlock all the doors when I open mine if I lock the doors.

Figured out the DIY method.
- shut the doors and turn the key from "off" to "on" (stop turning the key at the point just before the engine starts). Do this five times. On the fifth time the key should be in the "on" position, push up on the power door lock.
I'm pretty sure this is what I did. All I know is that now when I open the drivers door, all 4 doors unlock. Good luck. It would be nice if there was a chime telling you the code has changed. You won't know if it worked until you go for a drive.

I'm sure it can be undone by repeating the sequence then pushing down on the lock button. If that doesn't work, try pulling up on the button. It's all trial and error. Even if that doesn't work, the dealership can reset them for you.

To answer the original question of why they do it, its is all about insurance. They wanna keep the claims down from people who forget to lock their doors. Plus, if the person comes up with a fool proof story, they dont want to have to pay for something that should have been avoided. You might as well rip out your stereo, sell it on eBay, and say that someone broke into your car.
With respect to the thread originator I need to vent an additional issue. Is it possible to silence the horn from beeping when you lock the car using the remote? I feel like I'm announcing to the world "hey I've just locked my rig and am going to leave it - come and rip me off"! - Maybe I'm just paranoid but I really don't need to hear the horn. Maybe I'm just not as horny as I used to be - but that's an issue for another time and forum.
Yes, it's in the Owners Manual (Off the top of my head, its one of those hold the lock button for between 4 and 10 seconds, then presss panic, then release at the same time jobbies)
Oh, And my doors all unlock when I open the driver's door now. Woohoo! Thanks to all for the help. It worked somewhere between the 4th and 8th time I tried it.

I too found the seatbelt chime annoying back when I got my '06 Grand. And yes it can be disabled.
*Note* must be done within the first 60sec of turning on engine
1) Get in vechicle, while engine is off, fasten seat belt.
2) Turn inginition to accessory/run, wait for light to go out.
Tricky part
*Note* must be done within the first 60sec of turning on engine
3) fasten and unfasten the seatbelt in rapid session at least 3 times (i did 4) and end with the seat belt still fastened.
4) Turn of ignition, you should hear a single chime.
Congrats.

as anyone figured out how to disable the door lock, I keep gettting out of mine, forgeting to unlock the doors, go to open the tailgate, only to realize it's locked :-(
