Yes it does go black when in reverse.

Strange thing the other day, middle of the icepocalypse the picture came on for a brief couple seconds. Couldn't see through the ice but had actual video. Hasn't come back on since, just black screen.

Only thing i have had a chance to do is unplug the camera and try the new one with no effect. Tried running my actual video camera into the plugs I found behind the glove box. No joy there either. Just waiting for semi warm weather to pull the head unit and check connections.

Is a lock pick required for the backup camera function? Settings has a selection for enabling the camera...

lock pick is not required, you can have dealer activate the feature in the radio. That is strange, maybe you have two dead cameras?

Handheld video camera which does work didn't show up on screen either.

Does the lokpick have an ipod connection on it? I found one behind the glove box along with a set of composite video rca jacks. They appear to be separate cables.

best bet is to take your dash apart and see whats back there. trace wires figure out what they connect to. take pics while your in there and post them with questions.

Here's what I found behind the glove box. A single camera input that the backup camera is connected to. An iPod connector and AV output jacks.

Quick update. Tried the new camera connected to battery and camera input and have video. Somewhere the old cable/power wire must be bad.

All good now. Rewired using the new cables that came with the new camera. May have to adjust angle a bit and need that rubber washer to keep water out. IR is constantly on so daytime colors are interesting but nothing to complain about for under $20.
