Broken TPMS
Can I take the TPMS valve out of my spare and replace the one I broke, without throw the system in shock. I would put a normal valve stem in the spare since that is all it will ever be.
The manual for the 08 states the following in the TPMS section:
"The matching full size spare tire can be used in place of any of the four road tires. A low spare tire will not cause the “Tire Pressure Monitoring Telltale Light” to illuminate or the chime to sound."
Based on this, it doesn't sound like the spare is being monitored. If you were to pull the sensor from the spare to put in one of the other wheel and put a standard rubber valve stem in the spare, I would assume that you'd be OK and wouldn't get any warning lights.

Thats what I did when I upgraded to 35s, I had my tire shop pull the TPMS stems and just install regular valve stems. I then used the ProCal to disable the TPMS system and life is good

I knew that others would have to have had the same problem as me...Regarding the TPMS - I went in for an oil change the other day and they pointed out that I have TWO cracked valves - one on the spare, and one on the front driver's side. Figured that since it is a tire valve it would be a few bucks to replace, and when the dealer told me it is $200 per tire to replace the sensor ($97), re-mount and balance the tire, and "re-learn" the sensor to the computer. Does anyone happen to know how I could do this cheaper?? Not looking to drop $400+ on valves if I can help it - would rather spend that on something I can have fun with for the Jeep
By the way - I am in Northern VA near Chantilly/Fairfax...
Thanks in advance! Mark

Thanks! My BS detector went off a bit when they said the extra $115, PER TIRE, was for the mounting, balancing, and reprogramming to the computer, but the manual said that it will just pick up the sensor after driving 15 miles or so. $40 a piece, I can definitely handle - I wish I could just have them all replaced with rubber as I am sure it will happen again...

Buy them from 4WD.com like 40 bucks and have a local tire shop install them. There is nothing that needs to be done to the computer.
In that link it shows 3 different TPMS sensors with the same description but different prices. What is the difference in those. It also says, "All TPMS Sensors must be re-calibrated to the vehicle". What does that mean? Is that what the dealership told the previous poster about having to do something with the computer?
Thanks
