I have a glass waiver on all my cars. That means windshields are only $100 each time and chip repair is always free. With the $100 deductable, every windshield shop I deal with will waive my $100, so all windshields are free too! I've replaced 3 so far (different rigs) and one chip in my JK.
I have State Farms, and it was an extra $4/month, so $48/year, to change my policy to $0 deductible on comprehensive claims. This mean I pay $0. out of pocket for windshield repair or replacement (unlimited replacements), repair due to vandalism, repair due to nature (fallen tree branch), etc. Obviously everyone's insurance scenario is different, but worth asking about.

I get a free windshield every year, so it pays for itself. comp claims do not impact your insurance at all. That 90 degree windshield takes a beating!

There is a nice crack in the windshield, going about 10" from the top of the window. It is right in the field of vision. I will replace the windshield when the city finishes cleaning the gravel off of the roads from the winter.

3rd day of owning my 08 Sahara, chunk of metal fell off a big truck in front of me and put a half moon shaped inner crack in the lower driver side of my windshield. I was disgusted. I hate replacement windshields, and never replaced it lol. I didn't get any bigger (little bigger than a golf ball) and passed inspections. Showed it to the new owner and he didn't care either.

Same thing to me. Last saturday, I was driving on hwy 15 near Montreal with my brand new 2011 JKU that had only 550 km on the way to see Pascal vs Hopkins fight when I heard something loud in front of me. . Got a rock in my windshield at 110 km/h and got a dime size chip with a little 1/4 long crack starting from the chip. Got it fixed yesterday at the dealer. As another member explained earlier, they fixed it with resin vaccum and ultraviolet. Dealer gave me free chip repair policy for the windshield when I picked my Jeep. Hope the small crack will not continue...
