Stock JK TechBulletin board forum regarding issues with OE (original equipment) components of the Jeep JK Wrangler (Rubicon, Sahara, Unlimited and X) such as factory suspension parts, engine, transmission, body parts, interior fixtures and the on-board computer.
The JK Rubicon diff is a locker, not a limited slip. Therefore, no additive is required.
You are correct, though, about the Mobil 1. If you had a limited slip, and were using the Mobil 1 stuff, you would not need the additive.
Thanks! I mixed Mobil 1 and Supertech synthetic. Both were 75w-140. I normally wouldn't mix brands, but I had 1 quart of Supertech, and they were out of any more, so I was going to go with M1, but they only had 1 quart of that, as well. Oh well, I'll probably swap it out in the spring, unless it still looks new. I'll be mainly running Supertech, because it is 7 bucks cheaper per quart, and I've heard nothing but good things about it on other forums. M1 used to be a bit more price competitive than it is now. The Jeep has 29k miles on it. The old fluid stunk and looked like it had gone far enough.
It took slightly less than 2 quarts. I had read that it would take more than 2 quarts, but it wouldn't. It was on level ground, too. I assume there was some residual amount left of the old lube, and it can't drain off.
