Default Driver Door Problems

I just came back from the dealership after taking my jeep in for the first time. The driver door is causing me a problem, it doesn't fit right. If you go to close it, almost half the time, it does not shut. I find myself driving down the road with the "door" light on the dash. The fit in the front seal was so tight that it tore the door gasket off the top of the door.

If you begin to close the door, it stops about 2 1/2 inches from the body. It is hitting the door gasket in the front. It has a "bounce" to it as you have to literally slam the door to get it to shut correctly. The passenger door is fine.

The dealer said he could not fix it as it was a body problem. They sent me up the street to their body shop. They took a look and said the door must not be made right or is bent. When closed it lines up with the body perfectly. I can see where they are going to have a problem moving the front of the door away from the body to solve the problem, only for that part of the door sticking out beyond the body. I have to take it back on Monday for them to work on it.

Any Idea what's going on? Has anyone gone through this before?

Same with mine. I just follow thru when I shut the door and have trained the wife on this process. Not an issue when the windows are down and since I have no water leaks I'm not messing with it.

Top of my passenger side back door is not flush with the B pillar and sticks out a little but again no leaks, not problem.

Sounds like a lemon law thing to me. If it were mine, I'd already have had the factory rep looking at it or some dealership guru. I mean you just bought it... I'd start looking into my options for returning it or getting my money back. You shouldn't sit back and be accepting of answers that seem unacceptable to you.

Lemon-Law?? for a perfectly aligned, when closed Jeep Door that don't slam shut because the door is too light and the cabin is too air tight.

It's a product that doesn't work. If it worked it would close like it should. Mine closes fine. If his doesn't then something is obviously wrong. Unless I'm under a different impression than what is being relayed, this is something that the dealer should handle. If it cannot, then it should be pursued.

Cabin isn't air tight..take a look behind your spare and find the cabin vent flaps that are standard equipment on any vehicle which has an HVAC system.
(heating/ventilation/air conditioning)

Mine is tight to close too but it doesn't stop 2 1/2 inches from the body like the poster said his does.

Mine takes a nice health push to close it but it closes fine and I have no problem with it. The only problem is the first time passengers always close the door but only to the first catch. I have to tell them to closer it harder.

To the original poster do you have a hard to? If so maybe the panels aren't the whole way to the middle. You could try reseating the drivers side panel, just don't hate me if it leaks then.....

I always need to slam my doors in order for them to close all the way.

Well then if my math is correct 4 of the 6 poster to this thread so far should be pursuing the Lemon-Law because our JK doors don't shut "right" I did not want to go there but is it a "Jeep Thing" Just wait til summer and take the doors and top of and problems solved.

Only suggestion is don't let the body shop bugger up your JK.
