Just curious if all you guys that are hearing this pinging or marbles in a can noise, are you guys all driving manual transmissions?..I have a similar noise but mine is my throw out bearing making the noise..just thought id throw it out as a suggestion...if you still hear the noise with 91-93 octane you would have serious carbon build up or a big time oil consumer to be getting pinging with premium fuel...not saying its impossible, just saying it might not be an actual engine noise.

Try rolling at idle and applying the breaks slowly to load the motor...if you can hear it, its probably clutch throw out bearing related.

Default 2021 Update -- Might be Helpful

Folks, had this problem and a low pitched growl. The growl was, as a previous user mentioned, spot welds on exhaust shielding. The marbles in a can turned out to be a bad driveshaft. On most wranglers the U-joints are built into the drive shaft and therefore non serviceable. Once I had these replaced the marbles under load went away. It was causing me to stall out on hills it was so stripped. Happy to answer questions.

Default 2019 Jeep Wrangler JL make same noise.

Hi There,

This sounds interesting.
I have the same noise (ratteling at low RPMs while load is building up)
even at idle, but not as much as idle with the gear in Drive. And even more when driving away.

Automatic transmission.

So you’re saying it might be something loose hidden in the drive shaft?

Post #35 - to help troubleshooting try a full tank of premium gas once you get it nearly empty. Will tell you if engine is pinging from carbon as it could be knock sensor not detecting. Hard to troubleshoot via internet. It is a process of eliminations first.

Didn't realise you were a JL. My first guess from that would be somewhere around the torque converter / flex plate due to the higher rattle under takeoff load. Where's the warranty? Another question: is that exhaust rattle? Something like that. Heat resistant gloves and get under and grab the pipe or heat shields with engine running.

Default Film from engine

Hi again,

I was under the car. Poking as much as I could with a large screw-driver.

The sound clearly appears when the car is put in D.
as soon as we went back into P, sound stops. And almost doesnt appear at all.

Unfortunatley, nothing seems loose of what I could reach from underneith.
And I could almost feel the knocks from inside the black ”Hood” at the bottom. Even if it could ofcourse spread if something is rattleing against the block higher up?

Warranty is just out- since it just passed 120000 km.

Here is the film with sound clearly stops when it goes from put in D to P.

and another one similar:

Could it be clutch-related then?
or even transmission/engine although it sounds fine in N at higher RPMs, and also okay sound at idle in N.

I would look at the Tq Converter/Flex plate. Someone else had a similar issue on a JK within the last year and I believe it was related to Flex plate or Starter motor. You will have to search for that as the poster did get it fixed by changing the starter. I think it was the starter ring gear just hitting the starter gear.
