his thread almost perfectly describes what im hearing. i hear it after giving it a good amount of gas during just city driving, and then when i punch it to get onto the highway. i couldn't find anything underneath by tapping around..this is starting to annoy me

I got this rattle too ... when it first started it sounded like pinging. It used to happen only between 3000 - 3500 rpm ... now it rattles and rings all the time,

now everyone looks at me when I pull away from a stop... haha.

been under the jeep many times banging around This has to be some sort of heat shield... i'm gonna feel stupid when I find it.

Hose clamp the heat shield to the crossover pipe if you have cracked welds. I did it as a temporary fix and when I took it to the dealer for repair the tech came back in after getting it on the rack and said "You already fixed it." Apparently that's Chrysler's solution for bad welds on the exhaust.

Anybody have any other ideas on what it could be? I have an 08 Jk unlimited and get the marbles in a can sound only when I'm in gear and accelerating. Not when I'm in neutral and revving it. I've already fixed the welds on the crossover pipe heat shield. HELP!

Edit: It seems to happen more when I'm shifting

Its called PINGING!!!!! our jeeps are notorious for this..... try running a better grade of fuel.... anything 87 octane or higher.... here in utah our reg is 85 octane and mine pings so I have to run mid grade which is 88 octane and the pinging goes away... unless I use the 87 octane tune from my superchips then the pinging comes back..... ugh!

Try running some seafoam and/or Chrysler combustion chamber cleaner and see if it helps. These engines are notorious for carbon buildup

same issue here. been trying to find it for a few weeks now. I thought the crossover pipe only had 3 welds (what i could see with my aftermarket skid plate) and all were ok...now I will probably remove the armor and look for the other 3 welds!

I get this pinging/marbles in a can under load/acceleration too. I have a 2011 with 15k miles. I tried running 89 octane for one tank to see if it went away and it didn't. I guess I need to get under there and look around. I've been passing it off as possibly pebbles stuck in places from being off-road.
