Default factory remote start

Has any one put a factory remote starter in there JK. its cold up here and i need one, but dealer wants $600 to put one in, and i went to mopar web site and it only costs $300. If these things just plug in to exsisting wiring dont see why i cant do it my self. so if any one knows for sure let me know. I hate dealers or id ask them.

I would think it would be some thing you could just plug-n-play but until I get my FSM, it'd be hard to say for sure.

The owners manual says that you can't put in a remote start if you have the Sentry Key due to the engine cutting off after a few mins without the key and possible damage from the engine shutting down that way. I didn't want to bypass the Sentry Key so didn't really look into it more, but if someone finds out it's doable without bypassing the security features I'll definitely be adding it to mine.

The Mopar unit has the appropriate unit within it to work with the Sentry Key. You should be able to do it yourself.

Search around on the web for the two part numbers (yes you need to buy the actual remote start unit and the installation kit separately) and you will find the installation instructions on the web. Read them and then decide. Seems like many a reasonable route except kinda pricey at like $250 for the parts and then it only works from like 800 feet. Also it's not a newer two-way style unit. But it is just a simple plug-n-play.

That was the same deal with the TJ's and any reputable auto security company can do it. They did it on my '03 which had the sentry. It's all in who wires it. There is a by-pass for all cars.

Some of the after market remote starts work by programing an extra key and putting it in a compartment within the remote start modual. This is how they did my 2005 and I had no issues. Also I have seen the Mopar remote start with everything needed for under $200.00 on ebay.

Default Factory Security System/Remote start

I need some clarification, and I just don't trust my dealers as people here seem to have more knowledge than they do.

It is my understanding that the Rubicon has a built in security system. Is that correct? I ordered mine with the power convenience group. If so. is this security system the same as the EVS 1 system from Mopar?

I read that the remote start system can't be used with the EVS security system. Is there a way to have both? ( I read the thread in the Stock forum, but it isn't clear)

Thanks for the info.

I emailed a dealer and was told thier is some splicing of wires involved. He didn't go in to detail but that rules out plug and play. I'll leave splicing ignition wires to the experts!

ill find the instructions for the factory unit online. i have spliced many ignition wires. I installed a 40 dollar one from wal-mart on my 95 yj. but if its to mauch work ill just let the factory do it im getting to old for crawling around under dash boards. the range doesnt matter. I just need it in the morning before i go to work at 4 in the morning. considering its 5 deg. right now. what do you need a two way remote for?

What is the difference between a standard remote start and a two-way remote start kit?

Please teach me...
