Freedom Top Panels...
I think Lange makes a foam carrier to stand them up behind the back seat, if I wasn't so cheap I would buy one. Mine are always banging together.

With a little bit of foam you may be able to make something yourself.

I would make sure they are flat wit something to cover them. FYI it does not take much wind force to lift something with that surface area out of the back though they are heavy.
I was moving a 250lb desk in the back of my S10 and figured it was heavy enough not to have to strap down. WRONG! At 55mph the wind over the cab lifted it out of the back of my truck and it disintegrated on the road when it landed. Must have gotten about 20 feet into the air. No bueno.

The mopar bag is a good investment for 60$, I love mine, it is easy to use, and also makes a good shooting blanket to lay on, and it just rolls up into a little package when you don't need it. easy to put the panels in it, and it hangs off of the back seat easily.
i just place a lightweight blanket between mine that i always keep in the jeep. just make sure you put them in with the tops facing each other so that the buckles don't scratch the one below it...in other words the bottom one is placed white side down blanket in between and the top is placed black side down on top of the other one. drive around all the time like that and haven't lost one yet and drive 75-85 on the interstate so i'm pretty sure that you will be o.k. (your mileage may vary) no scratches yet either. i've done this on the trail too and just pull a bungee cord across the whole thing to keep it sitting down tight and not bouncing around on the trail. even packed stuff on top of them and no problems.
I used an old worn out blanket we used to have on our bed and made 2 "pillow cases" out of it to cover the tops so they don't get scratched. Then we stand them up in back of the seats on a soft surface. Works just fine. No leaks or other problems yet.
